I go by DJ 6IX, it’s a play on numbers and words, but it’s pronounced as ‘six’. I live in Toronto, Canada, born and raised. I DJ a lot of different genres of music and focus mainly on producing drum & bass. How long have you been making music? I’ve been producing for six years, and freelance studio recording for two years. I produce a lot of drum & bass, and also have some dubstep and house tunes out there. I also record bands and create music for advertisements. To develop the craft of producing and engineering music has taken time, and I'm constantly learning and always trying to find information to help me make great sounding, dance floor ready music. How would you describe your music? My music is on the melodic side, but also contains a dark and raw atmosphere. I try to keep my music simple. I'm a firm believer in making the drums and sub bass the standout in my drum & bass tunes. I like my subs to have rhythm and that's what gets you dancing. I have a minimalist emotion in my music, making you concentrate on what’s really making you move. Which track by any artist do you wish you'd made? There are so many tracks across so many genres I could mention. As for drum & bass/jungle, I prefer tracks that have a lot of feeling and soul, so I'm going to have to go with ‘Inner City Life’ by the man Goldie. That tune had such great influence and spectrum, it’s the kind of track all artists strive to make. Where can people hear more of your music? http://www.reverbnation.com/dj6ix and DJ 6IX

Hello! My name is Matt aka Depone (pronounced Dee-Pone – had to get that out of the way because people I meet never know how to pronounce it!). I’m a music technology specialist degree student in west London. How long have you been making music? I have been making music for around six years but only took it seriously and developed my skills for the last four years. I don’t have any formal music training, ie. piano or guitar, but I have self taught myself music theory along with my degree and I feel I ‘play’ my music in my sequencer. Does that make sense? How would you describe your music? My music is an eclectic mix of dubstep, nu skool breakbeats, techno and any other influence I have in my life. I made the change from nu skool breaks to dubstep around four years ago and very quickly got absorbed in the sound. I found the driving bass, melodies and creativity really inspiring. On the flipside I also make more chilled trip hop beats as I grew with the Massive Attack and Portishead from the Bristol era playing in my walkman around my early school days. I’m a follower of neurofunk-type DnB as well and have a particular soft spot for the label Virus between the years of 97-2002. Which track by any artist do you wish you'd made? This one is really hard to answer as I’m a music techy in training, but I’m going back to my roots and selecting Oxygen by Bad Company from the album Inside The Machine. This album was a huge influence on me. Where can people hear more of your music? You can catch me on Soundcloud @ Depone and http://myspace.com/deponedub. XTRAH Please introduce yourself. Hi Knowledge, name is Xtrah. I’m from London, England and I’m 22 years young. How long have you been making music? I've been making music for around three years now but only seriously for the past year or so. How would you describe your music? I would call my music deep, minimal drum & bass. Which track by any artist do you wish you’d made? If I could have made any track it would have to be Shimon and Andy C's Recharge taken from the Speed Of Sound album in 1996, such a huge tune. I still drop it to this day! Where can people hear more of your music? To hear more from me you can follow me at xtrah or go to www.myspace.com/djxtrah. You can also catch me playing at my night in London called Jam @ Bar Rumba, starting Thursday 8th April. All details of the event are on this page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=456222405503&ref=mf

How's it going Kmag I'm NCQL (Alfred Nelson), a 20-year-old producer in Auburn, AL, USA. How long have you been making music? I've been playing with the flames a while but I didn't really get serious until about 2 and a half years ago. How would you describe your music? I tend to jump around the D&B realm genre-wise but this comes from the process of attempting to realise concepts. I describe my music as more or less a realisation of thoughts, creative urges, and feelings I may have during that time. I create as it comes. Which track by any artist do you wish you'd made? Melodically, I've always had a thing for traditional orchestra, if I were a composer I'd most want to be like Ishikawa Tomohisa. When it comes to beats though, I think my favorite track I wish I'd made is Let go of the release by Amplicon. Where can people here more of your music? You can check out: ncql myspace.com/ncql wegotanamp.com last.fm/music/ncql And before I got into D&B heavily, I submitted much of my developments to an art and music group called Evoke: evokeone.com

Plus he delivers an upfront mix featuring some fresh music from the likes of Sukh Knight, Caspa and Rusko. We’ve also got a special sampling section where GLP explains the origins of some of the most famous drum breaks in modern music. He starts with the most famous break of all, the Amen, and delves into the archives to play part of the 1969 tune ‘Amen Brother’, by the Winstons. He also plays some classic early jungle from Renegade and Ray Keith to demonstrate the break in action. If you want to know more about the origin and influence of what is probably the most important six-second sample of all time, we recommend this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SaFTm2bcac GLP also plays The Incredible Bongo Band’s cover of ‘Apache’ – the source of the Apache break. Dating from the early 1970s, this track was so important to the development of turntablism that DJ Kool Herc has described it as “the national anthem of hip hop”. GLP picks examples from Matrix and Chase & Status that show what the Apache break sounds like when it’s reworked into drum & bass and hip hop. We’ve got all that plus great tracks from Original Sin, Alix Perez, Netsky and the Upbeats, as well as a classic track – ‘Shadow Boxing’ by Nasty Habits – that’s been specially recommended by Knowledge editor Colin. And of course, there’s the unsigned section. See below to read about the artists featured this month, in their own words. **Synamatix** Please introduce yourself: Hi, I'm Synamatix. I'm a 21-year-old dubstep DJ/producer from NW London. How long have you been making music? I've been making music since I was 11, but only got into production when I was 16. Been producing dubstep for about a year and a half now. How would you describe your music? Deep dubstep, taking influence from two-step, jazz, drum & bass etc. I just write deep bass, big deep bass. I can't write much else, haha. Which track by any artist do you wish you'd made? Kode 9 vs. Badawi - 'Den of Drumz' ... it's got the sickest rhythm. How/where can people hear more of your music? When I DJ out, or on soundloud.com/synamatix. I'm a bit of an internet slag so my music is pretty much everywhere now - just search for 'Synamatix'. **Hansollo** Please introduce yourself: My name is Daniel Noetzel, I'm from Poland. How long have you been making music? I have been producing D&B since 2005. But I started my adventure with music a lot earlier, making beats for some local hip-hop groups. That was very amateur, though. How would you describe your music? It's hard to describe my own style. I try to cross musical boundaries and do not like to be classified into one particular genre. My inspirations come from various sides. Ambient, reggae, hip hop, psytrance, funk – there's something interesting in every style and I am trying to develop without any limits. I avoid copying from others, rather look for interesting ideas and refine them in my own way. Which track by any artist do you wish you'd made? Oh, there's too much to name them all :). In D&B it would be Future Prophecies' productions – ‘Miniamba’ and ‘Black Dragon’, or Concord Dawn ‘Morning Light’. How/where can people hear more of your music? Some of my productions are to be released in the beginning of 2010. Art of Electronic Music will release my tracks ‘Colossus’, ‘Sun on the Water’, ‘Save Me From Myself’ and ‘Abyss’. ‘Positive Vibes’ will be a part of a Polish dubstep compilation by Apparitino recordings. There are few more to come, but I cannot tell you the details yet. www.soundcloud.com/hansollo Tracklisting Original Sin - Therapy - Playaz Sinstarr - Native - Quilin Alix Perez - The Cut Deepens ft Foreign Beggars - Shogun DJ Vapour - Cut Paper (Paper Cuts VIP) - 36 Hertz Planas - Agbekor - Ranking ***Stanza Interview & Guest Mix*** ***Sampling Section*** ***Knowledge Download Store Top Tracks*** (Correct at time of recording – 17/10/09) Top 5 drum & bass tracks 5.
