 Small Talk – Part 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:00

Beginner’s Podcasts SeriesThis is the twelfth and last unit of our FRENCH ETC. beginner’s course (http://www.frenchetc.org/category/beginners_podcasts/) for the French traveler. When you’re done with this first year’s French, you will have learned all the vocabulary and the grammar you need to “go native” on your next trip to France. Make sure you sign up for the companion worksheets, it’s not too late. The podcasts and worksheets and exercises are going to stay posted on the Web site until September.Today, we are chitchatting, making small talk and getting to know one another. The French call it ‘Parler de la pluie et du beau temps’. They translate ‘Small Talk’ as ‘To talk about the rain and nice weather’. Henri gets to know Walter in the hotel lobby. After they mention the weather – a must in breaking the ice, they ask each other where they live, where they are from, they ask about their families, spouses and children and what they do for living. They end up finding they are quite fond of each other and decide to go and have a drink to get more acquainted. This is a typical small-talk conversation, such as the one you might want to have when you are in France. So don’t miss the worksheet. Thanks for listening to FRENCH ETC.
