Episode-2471- 25 Items that Should be in Your Vehicle at all Times | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:41:19

Today’s episode was created by the audience during a MeWe Monday chat.  There are a few keys here.  First we are not recreating the Bug Out Trailer series with Steven Harris, it is not an exhaustive list of everything you need to bug out to Tin Buck Two. This is designed to be stuff that can be in just about any vehicle at all times and yet you still have room for your groceries and your kids. Next while two is one and one is none, we are not looking to over do redundancy here.  So this list assumes you have a good BOB (72 hour kit) and that it goes in your vehicle when needed (most times) and that you also carry a reasonable EDC kit on your person.  We also purposefully left out items like guns and ammo.  This list is something that even a 17 year old girl really should have in her car and know how to use. Some items are also more “kits” or groups of items or classifications of items as well. This is to make the list as universal as possible, and allow individual adaptation for your unique needs. Join Me Today to Discuss… Facts about vehicles and why you should have preparedness items in them Most people spend about 18 hours a week in their vehicle, that is 12.5% of all hours in a week There are 6 million accidents a year in the US and about 4-6% of people are in a wreck per year The average vehicle is now 11.4 years old in the US The List of 25 Items from Yesterday’s MeWe Monday in No Particular Order Tire Kit (quality jack, lug wrench, compressor, plug kit, spare tire, etc.) Fuse Kit Basic Tool Kit (include a Multi Meter) Cell phone charging kit (cords, charger, back up battery) Child Care Items and or Dog/Pet Kit First Aid Kit Flashlights (at least one hands free) Water Weather Radio Blankets/Tarps Road Flares or Signal Lights and Signaling Devices Maps/Atlas Lashing, Tying, Etc. Kit – Tape, Tie Wraps, Wire, Cordage, Velcro Spare Common Parts – Belts, hoses, etc. Fluids For Your Vehicle Extraction Kit Note pad and pens and pencils Jumper Cables and or jumper pack Extra food that is vehicle temps stable Tire billy, or some “club” that isn’t a club Stash of hidden cash Spare keys Documentation package Apps and the knowledge to use them (zello, glympse, etc.) Trash Bags Final Thoughts   Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Biltong for Breakfast The Legend of Wooley Swamp – Charlie Daniels Band   Sponsors of the Day Butcher Box Backwoods Home   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2466- Half Acre Homesteading – Part One – The Garden | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:37:19

Okay I called today’s show “Half Acre Homesteading” because marketing.  The use of two words in a 2-3 word phrase is good at grabbing attention, think “Taco Tuesdays” or anything in that vein.  You don’t need a half acre to make today’s show work for you,  you can do most of this on even a postage stamp lot, many do.  Likewise even if you have a lot more land, then this is what we call zone one design. Creation of a 1/20th – 1/2 acre system that you spend the majority of your activity on and hence it is ultra productive and gives you the greatest ROI on your efforts.  I will be covering techniques, varieties of vegetables and perennials, tools, etc. today but it is also a lot about how to think about the concept of small property homesteading.  Today we start with part one of a multi part series on this subject and cover annual gardening. Join Me Today to Discuss… Intro Segments YouTube Channel of the Week Come Hang out at My Place on Saturday The Concept of Homesteading Applied to Small Properties The primary things you can get from a homestead Fruits and vegetables Meat and protein Herbs and medicines Fibers and materials Income There are many ways to garden, which is best for you?  Episode-112- TSP Rewind – Let’s Talk About Liberty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:24:17

Today is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally Episode-1646- Let’s Talk About Liberty and was first published on September 17th, 2015. The following are the original show notes from that episode… I am getting an extremely late start today due to the new ducks arriving and a family emergency, so it is going to be a simple chat with Jack episode today. Last night I listened to the republican debates, not really sure why, guess I felt I deserved some sort of punishment. What I heard was mostly a bunch of people not actually answer any of the questions, say how great they were, explain why the other people sucked, and so on. When issues were discussed I sat with dismay at how clearly none of these people seem to comprehend liberty, which of course is supposed to be the foundation of our nation. Frankly these people seem to have a disdain for actual liberty. What got me even more was this morning while driving to get the ducks and later supplies for them hearing people like Glenn Beck talk about “how good they sounded”, not all of them mind you but many of them. Glenn the self proclaimed independent libertarian commending what many of these people said. This got me thinking, does my nation even comprehend liberty at this point? Sadly I don’t think by and large we do. So let’s talk about that today. Join Me Today to Discuss… What exactly is liberty What is the only valid purpose of law in a nation based on liberty When two individuals have a difference of view, how is a resolution found in liberty Why did we forget what freedom was all about We started out with freedom for some We became comfortable We asked the State to preserve our comfort The State was happy to do so We now think freedom is forcing others to comply How can we fight this, the ballot box is a fools errand and the rifle is a death sentence 10,000 paper cuts Teach others about liberty Be a political atheist (at least in discussing issues) Stick to principles, avoid people and polices Find pain points, discuss them Discuss how others feel about different issues Walk away The truth is, a person can only be free if they understand freedom, most don’t   Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TSP Gear The Duck Chronicles – Video Series Born Free by Kidd Rock   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2464- Rob Greenfield on Living a Full Year on 100% Grown or Foraged Food | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:19:05

Rob Greenfield is an adventurer, activist, humanitarian, and just a plain old good dude making a difference. He embarks on extreme adventures and activism campaigns to bring attention to important global issues and inspire change. He created The Food Waste Fiasco, cycled across the USA three times on a bamboo bicycle, and in 2015-2016 lived off the grid in a 50 square-foot tiny home in San Diego before auctioning it and raising funds to build 10 tiny houses for people with no homes. He then simplified his life down to just 111 possessions, all of which fit onto his back or his bike. He currently lives in Orlando, Florida in a tiny house he built near zero waste, with 99% repurposed materials for under $1,500. His current project is to grow and forage 100% of the food he eats for an entire year (from 11/11/2018 to 11/11/2019). Let me be clear when I say 100% I mean 100%, to the degree that if he wants salt he needs to evaporate sea water. He is the host of Free Ride on Discovery Channel, the author of Dude Making a Difference, and has spoken at over 130 events in 13 countries. Rob donates 100% of his media income to grassroots nonprofits and has committed to living simply and responsibly for life.  Episode-2460- Understanding Disease Resistant Vegetable Varieties | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:13:44

The typical story about disease and vegetables is something like this from the all natural crowd…. Just use compost and good organic fertility, build good soil and it won’t be a problem. Yea, um, about that, look good soil, good fertility and abundant soil life and minerals go a long way to healthy plants, but they don’t eliminate all diseases.  Some of my beans are developing a fungus referred to as rust this year.  Why?  It is so much wetter then normal.  The same beds are growing jalapenos the size of cigars, there is nothign wrong with the soil. In Texas and much of the south the battle with tomato blight is a constant battle.  You can start with soil that is perfect from a bag and by mid season it shows up.  Good watering practices, mulching and proper pruning help, but many in the all organic and permaculture world seem reluctant to use one of the best weapons at our disposal.  These are disease resistant hybrids. Hybrids have been given a bad rap lately and tossed in with the world of GMOs.  I have covered this before but they are not the same thing.  A hybrid green bean like Jade II is as much a GMO as a dog that is a shepherd crossed with a collie is, in other words not at all. Today we will review some of the more common diseases and fungi that limit yields and even sometimes totally destroy vegetable plants along with some varieties of seed that have disease resistance built into them.  More importantly we discuss how to identify a disease vs. pest damage vs. nutrient deficiency and what to do about them and specifically how to find disease resistant varieties based on your individual needs. Join me today to discuss…. GMO vs. hybrids vs. heirlooms vs. wild type Why I hate GMOs but why I am not actually opposed to them What is advanced genetic selection and how it may largely replace GMOs anyway Science isn’t the enemy it is why our lives are amazing right now Follow best practices and use resistant varieties, one is not done the the exclusion of the other Please understand the diseases and resistant varieties today are a tiny representation, not an exhaustive list Some common vegetables and diseases along with resistant varieties Bush and Pole Beats Rust Some Resistant Varieties – Jade II Bush, Kentucky Wonder Pole Bacterial Brown Spot Some Resistant Varieties – Cabot Bush, Kentucky Dreamer Bush Halo Blight Some Resistant Varieties – Boone Bush, Frontier Bush, Cucumbers Mosaic Virus Some Resistant Varieties – Marketmore 76 & 97, Chinese Snake and Dasher II Bacterial Wilt – no highly resistant varieties you have to rely on management Varieties with Some resistance Include – Marketmore 76 & 80,  Salad Bush, Saladin and Regal Consider also spinosad, pyrethrum and kaolin clay Tomatoes Early Blight Some Resistant Varieties – Juliet, Matt’s Wild Cherry, Legend Late Blight Some Resistant Varieties – Indigo Rose, Better Boy, Black Plumb Fusarium Wilt Some Resistant Varieties – Park’s Whopper, Supersweet 100, Celebrity Peppers Bacterial Leaf Spot Some Resistant Varieties – Admiral, Excursion II, Red Bull, Touchdown Tobacco Mosaic Virus Some Resistant Varieties – Big Bertha, California Wonder, Giant Marconi, Red Crest in fact most are resistant to a degree.  Episode-2459- Dillon Allen and when TSHTF for an Old Man & The Sea | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:19:10

Dillon grew up in Mississippi before going to DC to serve in the Navy. In DC he designed and built nuclear reactors, which he has talked about on the show before, back on episode 2253. He grew up sailing and recently made a passage from Houston to New Orleans, which is what he’s here to talk about today. He’s been listening to the show since 2010 somewhere in the neighborhood of episode 500 and has been engaging as a member of the community as Angusbangus via the blog, TSP and Facebook forums, Permaethos, 5min with Jack, Walking to Freedom, & MT Knives. He designed his own avatar that marries Calico Jack’s Jolly Roger and the rattlesnake from the Navy Jack. Some say “Don’t Tread on Me”. Dillon prefers to live by the motto “Tread if you Dare”. Maybe he shouldn’t have said that to Mother Nature. Dillon also happens to work for a company that provides grants for environmental projects, so we finish up with a segment on how to get grants and how to approach decision makers about them.  So today is really a two fer.
