[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090119.mp3] I recorded this show the night before a historic day in America -- the inauguration of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, and the first non-caucasian President in our nation's history. That's something many Americans (myself included) did not expect to see in our lifetimes. Obama is a major proponent of volunteerism and service to others, and the more I see examples of this, the more I realize how little I've volunteered myself, and it makes me wonder if there's more I should be doing to help others, especially given the number of times I've said on this show that all we have is each other. For now, I can only hope that this little show has done its part to help make your day a little bit more enjoyable. It's a small thing, but I hope it's something...  Dave’s Lounge #142 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090112.mp3] So I was all set to introduce some new features to this web site with this particular episode, but a funny thing happened along the way -- I actually spent much of my vacation time doing... nothing. Just catching up on sleep and taking time to relax and not worry about my web sites for a little while. It was kinda nice, actually. Still, the podcast moves on, as this week's show introduces new background music and six new artists, all of which come from direct submissions. If you've got some downtempo tunes you'd like to submit to Dave's Lounge, just send an email to daveslounge@gmail.com, and I'll give 'em a listen.  Dave’s Lounge #141: The 2008 Yearbook | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-2008Yearbook.mp3] We often remember each year by the music it gave us, and 2008 gave us a lot of fantastic music. Thus, this end-of-year special highlights your favorite downtempo tunes from the past year. A few of the selections surprised me, but for the most part, these are a lot of my favorites, too, and I hope y'all enjoy having them all together in one big 110-minute mix. This will be the last episode of Dave's Lounge for 2008, but don't worry. I'll be back on Monday, January 12, with all new music and a few new additions to the web site, some of which I've been meaning to add here for a while now. Stick around. We're still building something here... Playlist for Dave's Lounge #141: The Shanghai Restoration Project, "Preface (feat.  Dave’s Lounge #140 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20081210.mp3] This week I talk a bit about Natalie Walker's gig last Friday at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia. Short version: Natalie was excellent, and her backing band is just fantastic. Bob Scott, who was nice enough to put me up for the weekend, offers his recap of the evening here. I have some video from that gig that I plan to post here very soon, though it really doesn't do justice to the quality of the music played that night. The 2008 yearbook episode is coming soon, so please continue to share your favorite tunes from this year's episodes of Dave's Lounge in the comments. Thanks. [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20081203.mp3] For those of you who live in the Philadelphia area, Natalie Walker is playing a set at the Tin Angel on Friday, December 5. I am planning on being in attendance for this show, so come on out and say hey. Speaking of plans, I'm also planning on doing a year-end special, highlighting some of your favorite new songs from 2008. Feel free to post a comment here with a list of your favorites that I played here in the lounge this year. I think we might make a tradition out of this. Three new countries added to the List of Nations this week: Egypt, Ghana and Indonesia. That brings the total number of countries listening to Dave's Lounge to 78. I wonder how long it will be before we reach 100... Playlist for Dave's Lounge #139: san.drine, "Until December"  Buy from: iTunes MinusBlue, "Pale September (feat. [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20081125.mp3] So as I was putting together the mix for this week, I was struck by how well these songs just fit together. Thus, much of this week's show is just one song after another, without any interruptions. I think you're really going to enjoy this mix... Oh, and before I forget, Shaheen Sheik would like you to know that the remix for Wildflower World, which I played on Dave's Lounge #119, is now available for sale on her Myspace page. This week's "Here We Go" remix also will be available there soon. If this keeps up, she's going to end up with a remix CD that outdoes Dive Index. No small feat, that... [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20081112.mp3] This week's episode explores a few different dimensions of electronic music, starting with some synthesizer-heavy tunes and ending with a couple of tracks that emphasize electric guitar. [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20081105-MovingPattern.mp3] I've made no secret about how impressed I am with the music coming out of the Blackfish Productions label these days, and this is no exception. All the songs in this week's playlist come from the new Blackfish compilation, Moving Pattern Session 0.1. This label has set a pretty high bar for itself for Session 0.2. I can't wait to see them try and surpass it. Buy Moving Pattern Session 1 at iTunes. Playlist for Dave's Lounge #135: Canedrive, "Cut'n Run." Boot Cut Rockers, "Blue Beach." Flashbaxx, "Sandbank."  Special Delivery: Segment for AMPed #150 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-SegmentForAmped150.mp3] Next week marks the 150th episode of AMPed, the official podcast of the Association of Music Podcasting. To celebrate, all the members are submitting one of their favorite songs from 2008. Given the number of fantastic releases that have passed through the lounge this year -- Thievery Corporation, Natalie Walker, The Atomica Project, Science for Girls, All India Radio, The Shanghai Restoration Project, etc. -- it wasn't easy to come up with just one. I kept coming back to this song, though. Take a listen to this segment to find out why... MinusBlue, "Ocean Sky" Full episode next week, I promise. Thanks again for supporting Dave's Lounge.

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20080924.mp3] It's been an interesting week around the house.
