[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090511.mp3] New music has been pouring in over the last couple of weeks, including a giant stack of CDs from our friends at Nettwerk Records, as well as some great new releases from Sine Music and Blackfish Productions, some of which is highlighted in this weeks show. You'll hear more from those labels, plus more from United Recordings, RTFM Records, Cheeky Punster and Electronic Eel, later this month...  Dave’s Lounge #156: The 4th Anniversary Mix | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090430-4thAnniversaryMix.mp3] For the most part, trip hop and lindy hop have nothing in common. (A couple of girls who requested I play Portishead and Massive Attack at a blues dance in Durham last week might suggest otherwise, but we won't listen to them for now.) However, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the passing of Frankie Manning, a swing dance legend who toured the world and appeared in films in the 1930s, then enjoyed a long second act as "The Ambassador of Lindy Hop." I remember attending a workshop he taught in Greensboro about 6 years ago. He was 88 at the time, and he spent half that class flirting with his 20-something lesson partner. He was dancing and flirting right up until he died at the age of 94. There's a lesson in this, I think. You wouldn't think Frankie Manning would be connected with this podcast, really, but as I explain at the top of the show this week, everything is connected. We might not see the connections, but they're still there. Thousands of you have been connecting with Dave's Lounge for the last four years. Thank you for listening. This mix is for you... Suffice to say, I got a little bit distracted there... Not an eMusic member? Click here to sign up for a free 15-day trial and receive 25 free MP3 downloads, plus 30 MP3s a month for only $9.99. [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090420-LalMeriSpecial.mp3] This is a feature I've been meaning to bring you for a few weeks now, and I'm glad I'm able to do it, because Lal Meri's debut album is absolute quality. Producer Carmen Rizzo, formerly of Nettwerk Records duo Povi, has teamed up with vocalist Nancy Kaye (a/k/a Rosey) and Ireesh Lal to create worldbeat-tinged downtempo album that just oozes class throughout. This is great stuff, folks, and it really should be in your music collection... Click here to visit Lal Meri's web site. Click here to visit Lal Meri's Myspace page.  Dave’s Lounge #154: Escapism | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090413.mp3] Y'know, if Anji Bee can talk about Sasha Vujacic on her site, I figure I can mention my Carolina Railhawks here. Not only did I get to see our new-look football club win its USL season opener against Minnesota on Saturday night, but I got to spend 30 minutes jamming with these guys: That's me in the vest up front, pounding away on the big bass drum. And that's the North Carolina A&T drumline playing behind me. Yes, that was as awesome as it looked. Plus, we won the game, which was also awesome. Soccer is a fun bit of escapism these days. We all need some escapism in our lives. This week's show ponders that idea a little bit and encourages you to escape into the music -- including a brand new project from Dave's Lounge favorite Natalie Walker... [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090407-ChillcastSneakAttack.mp3] A note from Anji Bee: "Everybody needs a day off once in a while, even Dave. So I thought I'd stop in to musically reminisce about the good old days when Dave and I first met online. Now with the demise of CNET's Music Download, these bands are getting even harder to track down...  Dave’s Lounge #151 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090323.mp3] This week I dug through my email and found a lot of worthwhile submissions from artists and, in one case, their friends. I still have quite a backlog to dig through, but that doesn't mean I don't want to hear more music, so if you're making any new downtempo sounds, shoot me an email at daveslounge@gmail.com, and i'll give it a listen.  Dave’s Lounge #150: The Defunct Bands Episode | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090316.mp3] (This episode almost didn't make it out tonight. I upgraded to a newer, faster hard drive last week and did a clean reinstall of Windows XP and all my software, including my new copy of Sonar Home Studio 7 -- which still crashed on me for no apparent reason. It calmed down after the initial crash, though, so hopefully it won't give me any more trouble than that. I'm still tweaking the audio settings on my voiceovers. It was a little softer than it should have been in this episode, so I'll try to fix that later...) This sort of a milestone episode, number 150, but I didn't want to make too big a fuss about it, especially since the 4th anniversary of this podcast is just a month and half away. Still, I wanted to do something a little different this week, so I decided to go digging in the virtual crates in search of a theme. Along the way, I found a lot of really good tunes from bands that aren't active anymore. I thought I might share some of those works with you here. After all, it would be a shame if some of these songs were completely lost to history...  Dave’s Lounge #149: Have You Seen Thru You? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090309.mp3] Those of you who were following me on Twitter last week probably saw me raving about Thru You, a project by Israeli funk producer Kutiman in which he took dozens of random videos of people on YouTube singing and playing musical instruments and spliced them into one of the most awesome breakbeat collages you've ever seen or heard. Here is one of the seven videos from the project: Kutiman and his manager were kind enough to let me play a few songs from his self-titled debut album on this show. You'll be hearing more from him here in the coming weeks.  Dave’s Lounge #148 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090302.mp3] I'd like to thank whomever it was that clicked on an Amazon link on this site and bought a Kindle 2 last week. That made me a lot more money than I thought it would, and it had me wondering if I should start promoting the new e-book reader a little more on this show.  Revisiting Dave’s Lounge #80 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20070509.mp3] I know the last thing anybody wants to hear from a podcast is a rerun, but since I'm not up to doing a show tonight after getting away for the weekend, and considering this one seems to have dropped off the RSS feed, I figured it was worth bringing back. Episode #80 is still my favorite regular episode, simply because the music selection just came together so perfectly. I think it deserves another play...  Dave’s Lounge #146 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090209.mp3] I might have been early to the podcasting game, but when it comes to social networking sites, the running joke is that a site isn't officially mainstream -- and boring -- until I sign up myself. So for whatever reason, this is the week I finally decided to join Twitter. You can follow my tweets at http://twitter.com/permanent4. Thanks to Andrew Jaswa's Bird Feeder plugin for Wordpress, I should be able to announce new shows on Twitter as soon as they're live. We'll see how this works out. [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090202.mp3] One of the little joys of doing this podcast is getting new music from some of my favorite artists before any else gets it. It's just like that feeling I used to get when I was a college radio DJ, and I would go to the station and see an inbox full of new vinyl and CDs. I got that feeling again over the weekend. Stick around until the end of the show to hear it. Happy birthday, Anji!
