Sneak Preview: Dive Index, “The Surface We Divide” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge-DiveIndexSneakPreview.mp3] For a variety of reasons, I couldn't bring myself to do a full show this week, but I didn't want to leave y'all empty-handed. So I thought I would share a few tunes from the forthcoming Dive Index album, The Surface We Divide, which comes out on October 12. Will Thomas was nice enough to send me a preview of this album, and it is a fantastic follow-up to Mid/Air. But don't take my word for it... "Cut"  Free download from: popmatters.com "Finally Out" "Blind & Closed" "Love Like Ghosts" Regular service will resume soon. As always, thank you for listening.

[audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100726.mp3] Half of the songs in this week's episode are available as free downloads, and two come from the new Revolutionary Music Presents Organica Lounge compilation. It's one of the few quality compilations I've gotten recently to come from a label other than Sine Music. (Which, incidentally, is also represented at the end of this week's show.) If you run a chill music label and want to get your music on this podcast, drop me a line at daveslounge@gmail.com, and I'll give it a listen.  Dave’s Lounge #193: Things We Can’t Unsee | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100712.mp3] I know I created this show to be a getaway from your everyday life, but something has made me look at our everyday lives in a very different way, and it's something I have to get off my chest this week. If you haven't seen the movie Collapse, I highly recommend watching it. It will change the way you look at everything -- and really, I don't want to be the only one who goes through such a change. If there's something positive about this week's episode, though, it's this: I found out what Joanna de Seyne's been up to these days. [audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100628.mp3] Did your home nation's team bomb out of the World Cup? Are you upset that the refs keep getting the calls wrong and the powers that be FIFA has no interest in helping them get it right? Put all that aside for a few minutes and just chill to some great tunes from some regulars to the Lounge and a couple of new artists... Playlist for Dave's Lounge #192: Bluetech (feat.  Dave’s Lounge #191 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge20100614.mp3] A few folks out there know I've gotten myself involved in the blues dancing scene on the east coast in the last couple of years -- not only as a dancer, but as a DJ. It's a rare occasion that I get to play anything from this show during a dance, though sometimes a little downtempo slips into my mixes, just because some folks like it. It's even rarer that a song I first heard at a blues dance makes its way into this show. In fact, I think this week is the first time that's happened...  Dave’s Lounge #190: On Location | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100531.mp3] This might be the first Dave's Lounge episode recorded on location. I'm on a vagabond vacation of sorts up here in Philadelphia, where I stood and sang with the American Outlaws at the USA v. Turkey pre-World Cup friendly, and where I plan to DJ a few blues dances until their big swing dance shindig next weekend. In the meantime, I've got some music that should see you through on your own travels... Playlist for Dave's Lounge #190: Pocket (feat.  Dave’s Lounge #189 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100517.mp3] It seems to be inevitable that at least once or twice a year, I fall behind on listening to music submissions and hunting down new music. It's just cyclical thing, and I'll get caught up here fairly soon. In the meantime, I've pulled some good listening music for you this week's show...  Dave’s Lounge #188: 5th Anniversary Flashback Mix | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100430-5thanniversary.mp3] So I was trying to whittle down the music I wanted to put in this anniversary show, and it proved to be a nigh-impossible task. There was too much good music from the last five years. That's when I got the idea -- what was I listening to before I opened Dave's Lounge? That's the basis for the 5th anniversary mix. Some of these songs I've played before here, and a few others I haven't. Overall, though, this should give you an idea of the music I was listening to in the years before anyone knew what a podcast was. I dug this stuff. I think you'll dig it, too.  Feature Rewind Week: All India Radio, “Fall” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20080728-AllIndiaRadio.mp3] All India Radio, the musical brainchild of Australian Martin Kennedy, has been a mainstay on this show since I first played "For Angel" way back on Dave's Lounge #29 in December of 2005. It was the 2008 release of Fall, however, that took All India Radio to another level. Kennedy teamed up with vocalist Leona Prue and a handful of great musicians to put together one of the best downtempo albums of 2008 and possibly the entire decade. This one's going to be hard to top. Here's hoping Kennedy doesn't stop trying. Click here to visit All India Radio's web site. Click here to buy Fall on iTunes. Playlist: "Far Away"  "Let Me Remain"  "The End or Near"  "Fall"  "Asphyxiated"  "Morning Drops" Don't forget to check out Martin Kennedy's collaboration with The Church's Steve Kilbey, Unseen Music/Unheard Words, which is also available from on iTunes.  Feature Rewind Week: Dive Index, “Mid/Air” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20071003-DiveIndexSpecial.mp3] It was Natalie Walker who informed me about Dive Index, the brainchild of minimalist electronica producer Will Thomas. Dive Index's debut album, Mid/Air, combined IDM glitch with quality songwriting in a style somewhat reminiscient of Björk, yet still sounding like nothing else I had ever really heard before. This was my favorite album of 2007, and I do hope Will gives us a sequel soon. Click here to visit Dive Index's web site. Click here to buy Mid/Air on iTunes. Playlist: "Between Sky and Sea" (feat. Natalie Walker) "For Centuries" (feat. Cat Martino) "Second Guessing" (feat. S. Shaw) "Water In Our Hands" (feat. Cat Martino) "Hoko Onchi" (feat. Ian Masters) "The World Is Kind" (feat. Natalie Walker) Background Music: "Sole Fisherman" (feat. Merz) Dive Index also released a remix album called Collisions, which is also available from on iTunes. Own an iPhone or an iPod touch?  Feature Rewind Week: Natalie Walker, “Urban Angel” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20060816-NatalieWalker.mp3] Natalie Walker was the very first vocalist ever heard on Dave's Lounge, and her work with Daughter Darling was part of the reason this show was born in the first place. Daughter Darling ended up being a one-off project that served as the springboard to her solo career. Her first album, Urban Angel, remains one of the best albums I've ever featured on this show. Natalie has also teamed up with her excellent touring band to form Mouchette, who have recorded two EPs that are now available from Bandcamp. Click here to visit Natalie Walker's web site. Click here to buy Urban Angel on iTunes. Playlist: "Urban Angel" “No One Else” “Not The End” “Waking Dream” “Faith” “Quicksand (Thievery Corporation Remix)” Natale is currently in the studio recording her third solo album. Don't forget to check out her second album, With You, which is also available from on iTunes. Own an iPhone or an iPod touch?  Feature Rewind Week: Artemis, “Gravity” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20050723-ArtemisRedux.mp3] As the 5th anniversary of this show approaches, I've decided to spend this week looking back at some of the great downtempo albums this show has featured over the years. We'll start with Artemis, whose second album, Gravity, was featured way back in episode #10. Back then, Twitter had yet to be invented, and Facebook had yet to open to the general public. Time doesn't stop flying, does it? Click here to visit Artemis' web site. Click here to buy Gravity on iTunes. Playlist: Artemis, "Beautiful Life" Artemis, "Supernatural" (From Undone) Artemis, "Subterranean" Artemis, "Angel" Artemis, "Inception" Don't forget to check out Artemis' latest EP release, Auralei, which is now out on iTunes and Artemis.fm.  Dave’s Lounge #187: Come, Dance With Me | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://traffic.libsyn.com/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100405.mp3] I didn't have much to say this week, so I decided to let Aimee Mullins do the talking to start the show. Aimee is a double amputee who lost both her lower legs soon after she was born, then went on to become a track star at Villanova University, a model and a fantastic public speaker. You can watch some of her speeches at TED.com. [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100308.mp3] 2010 is proving to be a pretty good year for new downtempo music -- so good, in fact, that I've got an overflow of new tunes in my queue right now. So for this week, I'm giving you a slightly longer episode, complete with some new visitors to the lounge, a few old friends, and a fond farewell to one of this show's contributing labels.
