Dr. Kelly has authored or co-authored three books that expand upon American psychologist Silvan S. Tomkins’s multifaceted theory of human personality development. His current book The Upside of Shame: Therapeutic Interventions Using the Positive Aspects of a "Negative" Emotion (New York: Norton) was co-authored with psychologist Mary Lamia, Ph.D. Intended primarily for psychotherapists, this book presents the concept that shame has an evolved function of critically positive importance in personality development and in the understanding and treatment of personality disorders, in spite of that fact that it can also have seriously deleterious effects. His first book The Art of Intimacy and the Hidden Challenge of Shame introduced the same concept based on his work treating troubled couples. The utility of shame in the field of restorative practices was also highlighted in his book co-edited with Margaret Thorsborne The Psychology of Emotion in Restorative Practice: How Affect Script Psychology Explains How and Why Restorative Practice Work (London: Jessica Kingsley).  #582 – Memoir of A Trance Therapist with Adam Crabtree | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:41

Adam Crabtree is a founding faculty member of the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy in Toronto, where he is a lecturer, seminar leader, psychotherapy group facilitator, and psychotherapy practice supervisor. Adam Crabtree's first book, published in 1985, is titled Multiple Man: Explorations in Possession and Multiple Personality. He has written books on hypnosis, trance states in everyday life, and dissociation, pathological and normal. He has published an annotated bibliography Animal Magnetism, Early Hypnotism, and Psychical Research from 1766 to 1920: An Annotated Bibliography (1988). He has written several books on the history of psychodynamic psychology in the West, most notably From Mesmer to Freud: Magnetic Sleep and the Roots of Psychological Healing (1993). He has written about the history of hypnosis and advocates a the redefinition and resituating of hypnosis, placing it in terms of the broader category of trance, particularly in his book Memoir of a Trance Therapist: Hypnosis and the Evocation of Human Potentials (2014). He is contributing author of a book on extraordinary rogue phenomena of human experience titled Irreducible Mind: Toward a Psychology for the 21st Century (2007), and associate editor of a study of the possible explanations for these phenomena called Beyond Physicalism: Toward Reconciliation of Science and Spirituality (2015). Both of these books grew out of the fifteen-year research project of the “survival seminar” of the Esalen Center for Theory and Research, of which he was a founding member. His latest book is Evolutionary Love and the Ravages of Greed (2017). It is concerned with an examination of the nature of love, both as an interpersonal and an evolutionary force in the world. He writes about two kinds of love at work in cosmic evolution: agape(benevolent and beneficent love) and eros (desire-love). He also examines the domination of greed in today’s tumultuous world as a psychosocial reality and sees it as the result of a defect in the practice of love. He also offers a proposal for a grass roots solution that involves widespread growth of the practice of agape in the human community Get A 10% discount on all my courses below through the Zur Institute using the discount code: DRDAVE88 Check out the following Psychology CE Courses based on listening to Shrink Rap Radio interviews, offered through Zur Institute: Jungian Psychotherapy Part 1 (6 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 2 (7 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 3 (7 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 4 (6 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 5 (7 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Package of the Five Above (33 CEUs) Wisdom of The Dream (4 CEUs) Positive Psychology (6 CEUs) Pros and Cons of Positive Psychology (5 CEUs)

Alan Watts, philosopher, author, and lecturer Alan Watts (1915–1973) popularized Zen Buddhism and other Eastern philosophies for the counterculture of the 1960s. Today, new generations are finding his writings and lectures online, while faithful followers worldwide continue to be enlightened by his teachings. The Collected Letters of Alan Watts reveals the remarkable arc of Watts’s colorful and controversial life, from his school days in England to his priesthood in the Anglican Church as chaplain of Northwestern University to his alternative lifestyle and experimentation with LSD in the heyday of the late sixties. His engaging letters cover a vast range of subject matter, with recipients ranging from High Church clergy to high priests of psychedelics, government officials, publishers, critics, family, and fans. They include C. G. Jung, Henry Miller, Gary Snyder, Aldous Huxley, Reinhold Niebuhr, Timothy Leary, Joseph Campbell, and James Hillman. Watts’s letters were curated by two of his daughters, Joan Watts and Anne Watts, who have added rich, behind-the-scenes biographical commentary. Joan Watts grew up in the United States and England attending private schools and then studied art at various institutions in the United States. Her art has won awards in juried shows and hangs in many private collections. In addition to her art career, she spent 25 years as a successful fund raiser in the nonprofit world. Joan lives in Livingston Montana with her husband, Johnny (Montana) Hale, a musician songwriter and retired motion picture technician. Most of her life decisions have been influenced in one way or another by her father, Alan Watts. Anne Watt’s philosophies were also strongly shaped by her experience as the daughter of Alan Watts. Ann is a certified hypnotherapist and an educator and counselor in the areas of human sexuality, sexual abuse, family stress, self-esteem, healing the inner child, and financial and aging issues. Since 1985, she has facilitated hundreds of workshops in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, England, and Germany with The Human Awareness Institute, work she is deeply passionate about since 2008. She lives in Santa Rosa, California. You can find her work online at www.annewatts.com.
