The violinist says of the Dvorák: “I really love playing this music…. Podcast host Mark Travis provides a musical guide to the programs of March 22–24, which feature Christoph von Dohnányi conducting the Adagio, Fugue, and Maenads’ Dance from Hans Werner Henze’s The Bassarids and Schubert’s Symphony No. 9, Great. Director of Education Theodore Wiprud explores the mythological story of Henze’s The Bassarids, an opera based on what he describes as “quite a lurid story that is brought to powerful life” by the composer. Mr. Wiprud explores the melodic influence of German folksong in Schubert’s Great Symphony.
