Certifiable Total Recall
Summary: We remember way too many lines from sitcoms and have seen, heard, read, and played entirely too many movies, games, music, books, comics, television, and sports. Here we discuss them. If you're looking for in depth discussions of Family Matters, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Star Wars, The Office, Community, Lost, 24, and literally ANYTHING else, you've found it here. We are your personal eidetic memory - we are CTR. Jason Martin is a junior at Western Kentucky University majoring in Broadcasting with a Marketing minor. He also appears on WWHR Revolution 91.7 FM in Bowling Green, KY as "Jay Freeze" - listen live at www.revolution.fm. He worked in professional wrestling for ten years as play by play commentator, head writer, talent booker, and on air talent (1999-2009). His ultimate goal is to become the protector on "the island"... following in the footsteps of Jack Shephard and Jacob. He also claims to be the "real" Jack Bauer, but not heroin addict Bauer... Army of Two mask "killing Charles Logan" Jack Bauer. Andrew Van holds a degree from the University of South Carolina Upstate and now works in the finance industry. Though a few years younger than his cohort in crime, Van's attention to obscure pop culture detail matches his cohost and his energy is often infectious on air. He currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina and though it isn't completely decided as of yet - word is he may be Palpatine's replacement. For now, he will settle for ALSO being Jack Bauer, but not Kiefer drunk attacking a Christmas tree. Okay, he'd take that one too. WE WILL FIX
2 hours of The Dark Knight Rises after a short What's Happening and all following a moment of silence for Aurora, Colorado. Jason and Andy cover it all, in depth, and be warned, this is jammed with spoilers. Do not listen until you see the film - again, you were warned. Thanks to Buffalo Rodeo for "All the Same" and to Hans Zimmer for being a master.
Jason and Andy talk Person of Interest, Pixar, Abe Lincoln, baseball, and Must See TV in the 90s before the main topic - the guys use their innovative draft format to pick dueling Saturday Night Live casts and talk about which stars and what skits have allowed the show to survive for 38 seasons. Both are upset at people they left off and Jason is still pissed about Bill Hader - enjoy!
Jason and Andy go for just under two hours talking first a wide variety of stuff (Dark Knight, Lantern, Poker, MIB, Kristen Stewart's acting talent, and tons more)...then its about an hour on the recent crop of TV finales, covering at least briefly almost 20 different programs...and the opinions are brutal when necessary. Enjoy it - perfect for your weekend!
Oh how we love Joss Whedon. Oh how we love all of you. Oh how we've missed Joss on a big stage and oh how we've missed doing this show. We're back with TWO SOLID HOURS to let you know CTR is alive and well and we...are...here...to...stay. Hope you enjoy the show, just as random and crazy as ever. A few audio issues that were out of our control but we tried to fix it where possible. Thanks as always to Buffalo Rodeo for "All the Same," which they generously let us use as our theme.
Plenty to get to this week as we tackle some news in television and talk films and "the next Lost" before getting to the main course, FX's Justified, which returned three weeks ago. We talk about the characters, Elmore Leonard, the on screen chemistry and tone of the show, plus the hopes of the show runner. Justified convo spins into other TV at times but the guys do their best to keep it on track. As always, Buffalo Rodeo provides the theme song - "All the Same" - which can be found at buffalorodeo.bandcamp.com. The band is almost set to release a new album and we love em!
In what will go down as a famous (or infamous) moment for CTR, Andy and Jason put you in the studio with them as they randomly conversed while the tapes were rolling. The main topic shifts from Ving Rhames to Melanie Griffith, from the worst film titles ever to horrible family portraits online and so much more. It wasn't the plan, but it provided so much random entertainment we decided to release it to show you just how INSANE these two gentlemen are. A standard What's Happening segment kicks it off. Thanks to Buffalo Rodeo for "All the Same" as they are in the process of recording their new album - new clips, crazy talk, wild pop culture randomness. This is hopefully going to be an enjoyable ninety-five minutes of pure WTF. Please try to follow along with us on IMDB - as that's where a lot of it came from... we think.
The biggest awards are still left to be handed out and Andy and Jason have a few messages for all you early adopters to the force that is CTR. In the finale of the Year in Review: - Best Acting Performance (Male) - TV and Film - Best Television Show - Best Film - Best Book - Biggest Prospect for 2012 in Pop Culture - Heartfelt thank you's to all who listen and continue to spread the word "All the Same" courtesy of Buffalo Rodeo at bandcamp.buffalorodeo.com. Find them at bandcamp.buffalorodeo.com to hear plenty more from the rising indie rock stars.
We're BACK! Hectic holidays and vicarious vacations have kept us away for a few weeks, but CTR is back on its weekly schedule. This is the FINAL episode of 2011, split into three parts for easier consumption. In P1 the guys - - Early random banter, talk about respective Christmas' - Reminisce on Jason's trip to SC two weeks ago, including the theft - Talk Ghost Protocol, Warrior, and Stieg Larsson - Begin the Awards with the "Biggest Shame Award" - Pull a cliffhanger as we set the stage for Award 2 and pull the rug out, you'll have to wait until Friday's Part 2! Theme song generously provided by Buffalo Rodeo. "All the Same" from their Wanderers EP - head to buffalorodeo.bandcamp.com to get the whole album.
Jason and Andy welcome special guest Adam Jordan to the show as the trio discuss their favorite (and least-favorite) holiday films and then talk about gift-giving dos and don'ts for the pop culture obsessive in your life. Note: Do not buy us a sweater...unless it's a cool sweater. Some interesting stuff at the end about thinking about where your money goes and tons of fun stuff in the famous "What's Happenin" segment early in the program. Two hours of CTR, could there be anything better? Theme song courtesy of Buffalo Rodeo - "All the Same" - found on the Wanderers EP. Check it out at buffalorodeo.bandcamp.com.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours...our gift to your travels this weekend is a jampacked 2+ hours of CTR wonderfulality. It's all about stand up comedy, past and present, the changes in the art form, the all-time greats, the most overrated comedians ever, the Mount Rushmore of stand-up comedy, the best to transfer to television, film, or other mediums. We bring in a list from a stand-up connoisseur and talk about what we agree and disagree with. This is Andy and Jason as THEY got to know each other as friends years ago, coming together in a kindred spirit of jokes. There's also an odd conversation about Regis Philbin's possible replacement...from people who really don't watch that show anymore but hey, Kelly Ripa's hot! Enjoy this early holiday gift from CTR and let us know what you think. Theme provided by Buffalo Rodeo - "All the Same" from the Wanderers EP! Find it online today at buffalorodeo.bandcamp.com!
Jason and Andy get into the meat of the DC Universe films for the duration of Part 2, talking about each effort individually and discussing the pros and cons of the voice acting, the animation, the plot, staying true to the characters, etc. Tomorrow (Wed) we will be posting the FULL stand-up comedy CTR episode in time for you guys to take it with you over the holiday weekend!
We're baaaaaaaaaaaack - it's been a two week hiatus but the boys are back in town folks. In Part 1, recorded on 11/7, your fearless leaders talk a few recent films, a little Parks and Recreation, some gaming, some other craziness in the realm of pop culture, particularly television, and then just barely get into the main topic, which completely controls Part 2. All the recent DC Universe films of the past several years, analyzed and ripped apart all for your listening pleasure. Which did Andy and Jason like, which did they hate, and which one makes J-Mart cry? Find out in this two part PODSTRAVAGANZA!
This week, we take the world of television and go into a discussion of FIVE that we think you should be watching. Two dramas and three comedies, covering How I Met Your Mother, Sons of Anarchy, Mad Men, Parks and Rec, and Community. A quick What's Happening segment and a few takes on Arkham City and Real Steel and a little randomness and you have a can't miss episode of CTR. Stick around after the closing music for a full track from Buffalo Rodeo - "Grow Up" - available at buffalorodeo.bandcamp.com on the Wanderers EP!
The boys are back in town! No, this isn't a 48 Hours podcast, we mean YOUR BOYS - JMart and AVan, along with friend of the program, Adam Jordan. The discussion centers on the Die Hard movie quadrilogy (and soon to be "quin") but not before we tackle a triple header of what's been going on in each of our lives in an elongated What's Happening segment. It's a fun discussion, do keep in mind it was recorded a few weeks ago so some of the current information may not have already happened. BIG UPS go out to our boys at Buffalo Rodeo, responsible for our theme, who finished in an awesome runner-up spot in the regional RevFest 2011 Battle of the Bands event on October 15th! Next week, we debut a full song from these guys for you at the end of the cast. They are special musicians. Photo borrowed from Craig "Lego" Lyons and his blog at Flickr.
