8-Bit Alliance
Summary: A show where two avid gamers, get drunk and talk about the weeks gaming news. From all the console news about the PS3, 360 and even the Wii U to the latest happenings in the MMO & FPS world. Both DrunkenGamer & Gow have been games reviewers for nearly 4 years so have an interesting take on the gaming world as a result - they also like very much to get drunk, which in their case makes them rather amusing (or so their told people could just be being polite)

I don't know if anyone reads these intros, but if you do be warned that this is one of the more random episodes we have recorded recently. I think we must have spent at least 10 minutes on the Hero Hotline alone, which kinda spiralled out of control while talking about the new Scribblenauts game. For the rest of the weirdness, well you will just have to listen to the show. It was however been a good news week, from EA announcing that it was scrapping Online Passes to Sony scrapping some developers fee's & even Gow getting very excited about the glorified spreadsheet Gran Tourismo getting its 6th incarnation. Anyway all that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy. As you know guest hosts are rare, so having two in one week is nearly unheard of. However in this case they are Kinda a package deal. This week see's the long overdue return of the our old friend Craig, who brought along his young son Noah. It was good to have both of them here, even if I was very bad at curbing my tendency to swear in front of the little one (thank god he is too young to understand what I was saying). In between the ammusement cause by the little one we managed to find time to talk about everything from the announcements regarding EA & the Star Wars Franchise, More complaining about the Wii U & even some general MMO talk as WoW loses even more subscribers. There is something strange about podcasting during the daylight hours, even if it is a Saturday being drunk in the afternoon is always odd. That goes doubly when it is not intended to turn into an all-nighter. However due to life just simply gett...
I guess I should explain the title a bit. Regular listeners will be aware that about a month ago we started releasing an Uncut version of the podcast on YouTube. Now being that we are cheep while we were experimenting with this we are using whatever hardware is to hand. That means that the video is being captured on a Microsoft life-cam with tweaked firmware and a opensource video capture program. It's the only way it would work. Why is that an issue? Well, there is a tick-box on the video software that activates audio capture, guess what I forgot to tick? As a result our Uncut video was completely recorded in silence. Thankfully the audio for the normal Podcast recorded properly so it will be salvageable, but all of our rambling about SimCity, our bitching about the Wii U, our discussion on the Pluto and even our positive words about Molynuex were all missing. Anyway all that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy. Well it seems to work for video games still so why the hell should we not take advantage as well? This weeks gaming news was actually very interesting indeed. People got fired for what in the end turned out to be sarcasm, but when you're a Creative Director at Microsoft you really should know better. EA were voted the worst company in America for the second year running, once again proving public polls are a complete waste of time There are a few stories related to the imbalance between male and females within the games industry, from wages to imagery & even their exclusion from certain aspects that might help explain a few things. This episode of the Podcast is dedicated to Craig (aka TurkeySaladBoy) & Emma who, by the time you are reading this, will have tied the knot. Everyone involved with 8bitalliance wishes them every happiness in their future together, you two deserve each other. As a result of the pending more important event today this weeks podcast is a little shorter than previous recordings - I deliberately imposed a time-limit, more to stop me drinking as much as usual than the amount we talk. However as you will hear we still managed to get quite a lot of stories covered. From the Closure of LucasArts and layoffs at Dark Moon Studio to the fact the EA's idea of Freemium is wrong and the fact that Blizzard now seem to be fixated E-Sports. It seems that like last week something has made a return to the podcast this week - My lack of memory of the night before! I am going to blame that on the Old Tom, that stuff was tasty but boy was it strong. However it could also be the fact that all of my beers last night were different. Anybody watching the Video on the YouTube Channel will get to see the whole collection as I think we showed them all to the camera. However what your really here for is the gaming news. This weeks links tell me that we talked about Infinite Crisis the new DC MOBA, We had a bit of a rant about the WiiU and insulted some people on the topic & even discussed an RPG made in Excel. In the early days of the podcast Gow would ask on Facebook & Twitter for random words that he had to try and fit into the show. That habit has seen a return and I will have to say the break has certainly helped as the words suggested were good. As if to compliment the return of something old we also balanced that out with something new - Video! As an experiment while recording this weeks show, I fired up the webcam and recorded the behind the scenes footage and it will be uploaded separately to our YouTube Channel. It should be quite interesting to see what we normally hide from the Audio show :P Aside from all that you can expect all the usual gaming news, reviewed with our own slapdash style and lack of research. For example: we cover the ongoing failure that is SimCity despite never having played the game, we discuss the fact that Richard Garriot basically said everyone but him and a few others were crap at designing games & even found time to have our usual pop at American media and politics due to things said in the Sandy Hook investigations. So last weeks announcement out of the way you would think that we would be able to dedicate the show to more than just the PS4. You would be wrong, there was about half a show of follow-up, from the fact that the device is capable of 4K video to the way they may beat piracy. However we did also manage to talk about some other news this week, from the next sale of the THQ IP's & the shut down of 1Up & GameSpy, from EA forcing micro-transactions into all of their titles & the fact that Thomas Was Alone is coming to the PS3. Good news everyone, both hosts were here this week. There was also a hell of a lot to cover in this weeks show, prime amongst them was the announcement of the PS4. Yes Sony came out and publicly told us what we actually knew, their new console is on its way but managed to forget to bring the damn thing along to the show. However we did find lots of other news for you, from Ubisoft being dicks about the release of Rayman Legends to details on an extremely expensive graphics card & even the return of the tamagotchi! Anyway all that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy. Ok so this intro is going to seem a little disjointed but there is a reason for that - I have absolutely no bloody idea about what was in this weeks show. You see while I was out sunning myself in Gran Canaria, Gow was left here in the UK where it was apparently snowing to suffer the painful solo record. Unfortunately I kinda forgot to leave instructions on how exactly to upload the recording to the server, hence it not appearing online until today. However Judging from the links he has left me from the show, He managed to spend some time talking about Skyrim, Something happened at Valve, he found a story about a penis controlled game. Anyway all that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy. I am not going to lie, the intro to this podcast is going to be....well..a little slap dash. Not only have I completely forgotten what we talked about last night as usual, I am writing in a rush to get this done before I fly out on a much needed holiday. Now thanks to the pile of links I know some of the things we had planned to talk about at the very least. Hopefully we had a talk about Cloud Gaming somewhere along the line, Discussed the possible separation of Valve & Steam, Probably poked some fun at retarded american news anchors & looked at the Metacritic best and worst of 2012. One thing I do remember though is that a bet was made and a whole crate of beer is on the line! The Subject? The PS4, or more specifically its launch date. Gow thinks it will land this year & I think we will have to wait till early 2014 - Only time will tell! Anyway all that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy. This title and picture will not make much sense until you actually listen to the show, but be assured that even though I made the post this will result in Gow having a bad time. Good news is that as you can probably tell from the above it was not a solo podcast, in fact I personally think it was one of the best we have recorded in a while. Testing out a new format where we put nothing but the headlines on the screen unless we need specific details, we rattled off some words about everything from EA double-dipping on Dead Space 3 to another round of insult the analyst. We are also even more convinced that Gabe has a serious case of the molyneux's and we even found the time to go all fanboyish about the Wii U & Playstation Plus.
