Ep. 68: How to Build Effective Relationships | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:51

A key to effective leadership is the ability to build positive relationships with other people. We know that these relationships improve retention, engagement and discretionary effort but there is a much deeper meaning and importance. Relationships fill important human needs for belonging and a sense of purpose—they add overall meaning to work and when work has a purpose, then life has a purpose. The research is clear that physical and mental health improves when people are part of a well-functioning group. This topic has gained greater importance in the past few decades as the nature of organizations has been transformed. The nature of the relationships that made a traditional hierarchy function well is dramatically different from one that makes a flat, network, team-based organization work well. In the new organization of today, with its greater emphasis on teams, networks, better information dissemination: the nature of relationships has changed. It is now important to develop relationships that elicit cooperation and encourage people to take initiative and act more independently. Please join Dr. Jack Zenger and Dr. Joe Folkman as they share nine key ways to build effective relationships and work with others in a positive way. Download the handout for "How to Build Effective Relationships."

Ep. 64: How to Develop Strategic Vision — Eight Critical Behaviors | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:41

Strategic vision is one of the most crucial competencies for effective leaders to possess. Interestingly, it is one of the most often quoted weaknesses.  Some of the most common comments we hear about a person’s area of weakness are, “This person is not strategic. This person is not perceived as looking at the longer term, the broader view of the organization’s vision and mission. They are stuck in the same way of getting things done. They are not skillful in helping others to understand the vision so that it can be translated into challenging and meaningful goals. They are not able to connect the big picture to tactics and short-term goals.” This is a problem.  Please join us for this presentation where Dr. Jack Zenger and Dr. Joe Folkman will answer the questions: How many leaders with strategic vision does an organization need? How do you go about developing that vision? What does strategic vision do for the firm and the individual? What does an individual need in order to truly execute well for their organization? What is required to coach leaders on strategic direction and vision? Download the slides for "How to Develop Strategic Vision"
