 E134: Remembering Michael "Scout" Adam | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:15

This is a special episode. Which is why it’s coming out in the middle of the week. I wrestled with exactly how tell people about this. First I thought I’d make a normal announcement at the end of one of the episodes. But then I decided this person was so special to me and so many others it deserved it’s own space. You see, recently many of us in the Survival and Preparedness community lost a dear friend. His name was Michael Adam. But many knew him simply as Scout. Scout was the head of Texas Appleseed, host of Rifleman Radio, and president of Battle Road USA. He was also a Vet, a Texas rancher, husband, and father to five daughters. One day Scout asked me why I was doing what I was doing. I told him simply, “Shit happens.” He chucked and gave a knowing nod in return. I asked him why he was doing what he was doing. He gave me a long speech about the state of our country and countrymen. He then said…and well… I have five daughters, Aaron. And some of these boys can run faster than me. Scout became something of an older brother to me after meeting him. He was someone I thought of often and didn’t get to talk to often enough. In fact, the day before he died I wrote a note to myself to call Scout. We’d been playing phone tag for three weeks. It wasn’t my turn, but it’d been too long since he called me back. That’s a call back myself and many others will never get again. A few weeks ago now Scout ran off the road in into a culvert. Last I heard from mutual friends that was pretty much all there was to the story of how a father of five, patriot, and friend to many died—gone in an instant. I’m going to tell you a story today. And this story is thanks to Scout. It’s about my first experience with Project Appleseed. You see, as he told a small group of us on our first day of bootcamp, the seventh step to firing the perfect shot is to tell others about Project Appleseed. So today in memory of Scout, join me in the seventh step. But before we get to that I would ask that anyone able to make a small donation to a college fund set up for his five girls.  E129: Becoming a Good Shepherd of your LIberty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:11:42

In this episode hosts Aaron and Jason reveal a new ITRH concept. It all begins with a question: What’s missing from the world of the sheep, sheepdog, and the wolf? You see, Lt. Col Dave Grossman first popularized the notion of sheepdogs: They live to protect the flock and confront the wolf. There are also sheep: They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident. This is were most people fit into three part concept. Then there are the wolves: They wolves feed on the sheep without mercy. But this leaves a whole in the structure of our society. And when a sheepdog is left unattended by s shepherd they eventually revert back to being wolves. A good shepherd must guide a sheepdog. They must give the sheepdog his boundaries, teach him right from wrong, give him responsibilities, tell him exactly what his job is and is not, and keep him form hurting the sheep. A good shepherd must also understand the place of the wolf in the wild. But that wolf must be kept away from the flock. That flock must not be caged to the point of suffocation in the name of protecting it from the wolf. What we’ve forgotten here is this: The government is NOT the shephered. The government is just another sheepdog. We are the shepherd. Yet, we’ve let the wolves take our place as we become the sheep.
