You Can’t Run Away From Yourself | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:53

Today I explain how I felt kind of ashamed doing the podcast as I wasn't losing any weight. I had started off the year on the right track, but then I started to fall into bad habits. In the same way that staying away from the podcast didn't make my weight change, staying away from exercise and eating right isn't going to make the weight fall off either. In the end you have to get back up, and try again. Coach Kevin D Uncensored Today we interview a fitness coach who lives right down the street from me. He just started the Coach Kevin D Uncensored podcast, and today we hear what inspired him to start taking his health seriously and drop the weight (and keep it off). He explains how he finds time to eat right (when you don't really get a lunch) exercise (when you have four kids) and more. Check out his podcast at www.coachkevind.com  You can also find out more about him at www.avonlakefitness.com

Bacon Makes it Better? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:54

Have no fear, bacon is here! With Americans gobbling up more than 1.7 billion pounds of bacon each year, Destination America brings bacon buffs what they crave with an all-new series, UNITED STATES OF BACON. Each episode features our hog-wild host, Chef Todd Fisher, as he road trips to cities across America in search of the most mouth-watering, stomach-growl-inducing, sensory-overloading bacon creations kitchens have to offer. While more than half of all U.S. homes (53%) keep bacon in their fridge at all times, no longer are the sizzling strips being relegated to the sidelines as a simple breakfast side dish. As Chef Todd discovers, bacon has become a beloved fixture of American cuisine for any meal of day and the "secret sauce" for recipes of all kinds, popping up on menus as the crown jewel of traditional dishes and in avant-garde pairings with ice cream, jam, and cocktails. The 12-episode first season of UNITED STATES OF BACON premieres Sunday, December 30 at 10 & 10:30 PM E/P. If only television screens were scratch and sniff! Denny's Bacon Makes it Better Denny's is now serving a salted carmel sundae with BACON. A BACON Milkshare, and many other bacon related products. My gripe is there are people who truly do believe that life is better with bacon. My job is gone! Eat some bacon! My government is corrupt! Eat some Bacon. Meanwhile if the bacon doesn't make it better, Arby's will provide Good Mood Food while my snickers really satisifes me. Are we really that stupid?

The Hardest Exercise You Will Ever Do Is… | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:59

Today I talk about the hardest exercise I will ever have to do. This podcast is a glimpse inside my mind (where the true battle for fitness takes place) and I'm sharing it as I feel there are others who feel the same way. It's not my typical episode, but I feel we all need to put ourselves first (which is the hardest thing for many of us to do).

Slow and Steady Is Not So Bad | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:01

In this week's episode I talk about the following: 1. I "Flunked out" of Leanness Lifestyle University 2. Owning the fact that this "Failure" is really MY fault. 3. Not being first does not mean you're last 4. Define what you call success. I'm losing weight consistently. I'm happy with that. The BodyLastics Are Here! I got my shipment today and waited to open them on the air so you an hear my first impressions (yes I know its radio..). Great stuff. A video will be in the future. IT'S LIKE CHRISTMAS You can also get bodylastics at Amazon.com

 A New Take on Pain | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:53

In today's show, I'm glad to be down to 208.2, but I had recorded this on my usual (Saturday) I was at 210 (Slightly up). The key point is that your success will have hurdles. I've had great success this year dropping each week, but I knew eventually I would go up. This is not a huge deal. We just evaluate where we are, what we did good, what we could improve on, and come up with a new strategy. Joe on the Biggest Loser Provides New Insights Into Pain I was watching the Biggest Loser and contestant Joe had to swim 500 years to shore. At the end of it as he was coming out of the ocean, he said "Pain is just weakness leaving your body." I thought about that one and its so true. I killed myself at the gym to the point where I could barely lift my arms to shampoo my hair. When I feel pain, I now say "It's just weakness leaving my body." When I hear my stomach grow it is just "the sound of my stomach shrinking." With this new attitude, I actually smile when I feel muscle soreness (don't go crazy on this, and consult your doctor). Zagged When You Should've Zigged Last week I got 3 hours of sleep on Sunday. It killed my fitness efforts. The bad part is my schedule is going to have me doing that on a regular basis. With this in mind I need to get some healthy items in my car on Sunday. I need to take a nap on Saturday in preparation. Sleep is HUGE, and there isn't much I an do in this instance. The other hurdle I am finding, as I am trying to add more strength training to my routine, I am very self-conscious about lifting weights at a gym (free, or machines). Instead of just choosing to not lift weights I remember using resistance bands in the past. I put out a blog post about bodylastics resistance bands. They have more weight, and are better built than the previous bands I had (and I plan on ordering them and using them in my home, or while on the road). Chobani Pear Yogurt Review Like everything else new that I'm trying, I'm trying to add food to that mix. Today I tried Chobani Greek Yogurt Pear Flavor. I had never heard of pear yougurt and I have to tell you this was pretty yummy. it has a lot of protein, very little salt, and actual pear chunks. I will be buying more of these in the future. Bodylastics Resistance Tubes I just ordered my bodylastics package so I can do resistance training at home. I'll be reporting on this in the future. Amazon.com Widgets

Just Doing It | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:44

Today I'm proud to announce that I'm down to 211.8 (I started the year at 217). Part of it has been my participation in Leanness Lifestyle University. This means I know that someone is going to review my food, and my activity. It is the ultimate accountability. Here are some things I've discovered. Waiting To Eat On the Leanness Lifestyle app there is a wATE feature. The ways this works is it makes sure you eat every three hours. This keeps you from eating when you're not hungry. By eating more smaller meals throughout the day you keep your metabolism going.  When you wait, you get a point (woo hoo - so its a bit of a game). What I have found is there are times when I think I'm hungry, but  know its not been three hours I don't eat. This is partly due to knowing that its just a bit of time before I do get eat. The other thing this does is I am actually hungry when it comes time to eat. I'm not famished (so I binge), but I'm actually hungry. I've taken steps to make sure I have food with not just less calories, but better nutrition. It turns out that food with better nutrition, typically allows you to eat more of it, and it fills you up (and keeps you full). JEFit App Tracks Your Workout I went looking for an app that would track my weight lifting efforts. I found JEFit which contains over 1300+ exercises. The JEFIT Exercise Database provides animations and detailed information about each exercise. You can create your own workouts, and if for some reason you can't find the exercise you are looking for, you can always enter in manually. The app is available for both iPhone and Android. You can get the free Android version at Amazon or iTunes there is also a Pro Version with an improved interface that you can buy at Amazon (android) and iTunes.

 Accountability Partner – Tom Jordan – Journaling | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:21

Fitness Accountability Partner Today Dave introduces another new friend. Last week we met Dave Greenwalt of Lifestyle 180, and this week Dave introduces Tom Jordan who is going to appear on the show every now and then to help hold Dave accountable. You can listen to Tom's podcastat losingweightpodcasting.com We talk about blending, and eliminating barriers to fitness. If you are looking into protein shakes check out the BlenderBottle®  if you are tired of sifting powder through your teeth. I know for me on the few times I've tried protein shakes, they always seem to be a bit lumpy. I need to try one of these. Journaling Your Way To Better Health Earlier in the week, I wrote an article about journaling. It can help reduce stress, help increase focus, insights, and more. Being the geek I am (nothing against paper and pencil) but now you can use a website like Penzu and write a journal anywhere you have access to a computer with the Internet. Gym Pact Lets Your Exercise From Home You can now earn money working out at home. I've talked about Gym Pact alot, its cause it keeps getting cooler. Now the iPhone version tracks your activity and counts it toward your exercise promise. See Video Mentioned in this Episode Zombies, Run! Zombies, Run! 5k Training Also available for android

Lifestyle 180 – Get Healthy and Win Cash | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:27

Today we have the return of David Greenwalt who is a certified wellness coach, and I wanted to share some information about his Lifestyle 180 course. If you've never heard about this course its a great course. This isn't one of those weight loss programs where you sign up and sit back. If you are looking to take your fitness to the next level, this is the course for you. You will be expected to actively focus on your health. Are you looking for an accountability partner? Dave has a crew of people who have been where you are. They know the struggles, and they know what it takes to be successful. They will be monitoring your activity, food logs, etc to coach you through your success. Three Prong Approach This is not just about eating less and exercising more. The third piece of the puzzle is your lifestyle. It's your mind. This program helps you discover the real you that may be sleeping right now, and wake it up so that you can not only lose weight, but keep it off by developing a healthy lifestyle that you can actually LIVE. Dave Has Made it Easy Dave has built his program (including the technology) from scratch and has helped THOUSANDS of people lose weight, and keep it off since 1999. Fast forward to today and there are great tools like Lose it! and Fitbits to help you track your food intake and activity. Dave has now integrated his Lifestyle 180 course so those that are using Lose It! and Fitbits can use the system they already know instead of learning a new one (or trying to use both). How cool is that? (This is personally why I'm going to invest in myself and take this course). You Need More Than a Cool App When  I was talking with Dave he brought up a good point. That is that if the app is all it took to lose weight, we'd all be at our goal weight. I know I've been using gadgets for three years. All its allowed me to do is track my weight loss, and gain, and loss, and gain. For me the $97 a month I'll be spending will be motivate me to pay attention and put the advice I get into practice. If nothing else, I've learned in the three years I've been doing the podcast is that I need to try something new. When you look at how many times the graph goes down, I've lose the weight I needed to lose. I just need to learn how to do it consistently. Gymboss Free Interval Training iPhone App I forgot my gymboss when I went to the gym. having that little box coach me to run harder always work. When I went to the iPhone app store to see what was available, I was glad to see gymboss makes a free iPhone app. Check it out.

What is Working So Far | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:36

Today I'm glad to report I'm down to 214.2 (from 217 last episode). What's different? 1. I'm exercising 30 minutes at least two times a week (using Gym Pact) 2. I cut my soda drinking to almost none, and now if I do drink a Mountain Dew, I drink a 12 oz can, instead of a 20 oz bottle. 3. I'm committed to exercise. When it was cold the other night, I still bundled up and went walking. If you can get that first step, its amazing the confidence I feel about myself. I start off the day with a whole new outlook. Want More Biggest Loser? I found there is an NBC App for the iPhone (assuming there is one for android) that allows me to watch the Biggest Loser on the run (not live, but I can stream it later). Jillian Michaels Has 5 Things We Can Do NOW 1. Change your mind. You can only achieve if you believe. 2. Set Attainable Goals. I've spoken about this in the past. 3. Setup your support system (get your family, friends, and neighbors involved). 4. Make Healthier Choices (Go through your fridge and throw out the bad stuff). 5. Start Moving! Jillian's new book Slim for Life is available for pre-order. From the Group The shopping app was called Shopwell. You can chime in on the conversation on our Facebook page.

Fitness Uprising – Using Your Anger | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:55

I started off this year setting a record for me 217 lbs. I've been doing this podcast for three years and I would love to know how much weight I've "re-lost." I'm disappointed. I'm angry. It appears I have no control when it comes to food. I could say I've been tricked, but the scale doesn't lie. Anger is not BAD in itself. It is an emotion. How you respond to that emotion can be positive (exercise, getting up and moving) or negative (self hatred, lashing out). Here are some thing to think about. Anger can be ugly. I want to use my anger for good. There are some things we need to admit when it comes to anger. 1. Anger is all about you. You feel an injustice, etc and it has effected YOU. But you also need to be 100% honest with yourself and realize YOUR part in the situation. When you get take ownership, it can help you dig deep and get real about what you’ve done so that you can move on, lose weight, and become what you really want to become. 2. Anger can help you get up and move.  Movement can come about when the pain of sitting still outweighs the pain of doing doing the right thing. When you are frustrated with your car, the pain of not having a car is greater than the pain of parting with your cash. You are frustrated because you have a goal (good health, lose weight) and something is getting in the way (fast food, life).  This is why your angry. Anger is often is seen as negative. While its not as fun as "joy," it is better than "Depression." With anger, you need to do something with it. This can be unproductive (yelling at innocent people). On the other hand holding it in is not good (stress, depression). As the old saying goes, "If you don't do something with your anger, it will do something to you." Preliminary results from a survey of married couples suggest that disputing husbands and wives who hold in their anger die earlier than expressive couples. In 2005, a study showed that responding to a stressful situation with anger instead of fear gave you a greater sense of control and optimism about the situation. A 2007 study demonstrated that angrier people were better able to differentiate between strong and weak arguments. This study seems to suggest that anger can help you focus on what's important to you and make decisions that will meet your needs. A  1997 study about  anger reported that anger created positive change, with a third of the participants saying that it specifically helped them address personal faults Be careful with anger as you can redirect it toward YOU, and instead direct it toward the enemy (Ronald, Wendy, The King, the Bell). Be careful where you look. If you look backward at your mistakes you can convince yourself that you can't do it (as you are surrounded by the memory of your mistakes). Keep your eyes on getting healthy, on finding ways to stay active, eat better. You know what your problems are (for me its fast food and lack of exercise). FIGHT to beat them. The more you do, the easier it will be. I love this song by Muse called "Uprising" as it gets me pumped up to flip fast food the finger and recommit myself to a healthier lifestyle. To me it is a battle cry for those who are looking to hold us down, steer us in the wrong super-sized direction. They will not be victorious.   If you like the tune you can get it on Amazon or iTunes Amazon.com Widgets

Get Organized and Get Fit | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:08

My First Gym Pact Experience I just got to use the Gym Pact app for the first time. Here are some of the lessons I learned. 1. I need to be outside the gym for my GPS to pick up a signal to allow me to check in 2. I also need to wait to be outside to check out. 3. They have great support As I tried to check out from inside the gym, the software thought I was cancelling my work out (after 30 minutes). When I sent an email explaining the problem I had, the support team added my workout in next to no time. I haven't use this feature, but it also ties into runkeeper.com in the event you don't want to be a gym rat. Getting Organized Can Help You Get Fit If you take the time you spend looking for things, and the stress you feel and eliminate it you will find the time to exercise, have a better attitude, and you might have more money . Here are some other benefits of eliminating clutter. 1. Reduced Financial Stress (mentioned on show mint.com) 2. Minimized Personal Conflicts 3. Increased "Me" Time 4. Fewer Missed Medications 5. More Time for Exercise 6. Better Diet 7. A Healthier Home Read full article here   Fitness quiz I took a fitness quiz to help evaluate what type of environment I liked to exerecise in, what motivated me, what type of exercise I liked, and the understood the rpos and cons of that exercise style. You can take the quiz HERE
