Alison Mackey, co-author of "The Bilingual Edge: Why, When and How to Teach Your Child a Second Language," dismantles some of the myths related to raising bilingual children and gives us advice on how to create a bilingual environment for children. This is the third and final interview of the "Raising Bilingual Kids" series. Interview is in English.

Penny Lara was born in the U.S. but she grew up in Mexico. Today she lives in the U.S. and is the proud mom of two bilingual teenagers. In Part 2 of my special series "Raising Bilingual Kids," Penny talks about how she did it and how she overcame some of the obstacles that popped up along the way.

Paola, a telecom engineer in Seattle and working mom, has a strong desire to raise her daughter bilingually. In this interview, Paola talks about the steps she has taken to make this a reality and she gives some advice to other parents who would like to do the same. Paola is a native Spanish speaker from the Basque Country in Spain. (P.S. I recorded this interview via Skype at the local public library, so at times the connection wasn't the greatest. Sorry!)

In the second part of the Voices en Español interview with Zuleika Deciga, she talks about the competition and how she prepares for different roles. Interview also includes the return of "Pongo un circo." This is the part of the podcast where we talk about slang or funny colloquial expressions in Spanish. In this episode, Zuleika talks about the word "chido" and how it is used in Mexico.

Growing up in Distrito Federal (that’s Mexico City), Zuleika Deciga was crazy about radio. She loved listening to radio programs and when she got to college she choose journalism and communications as her major. After graduation, she spent two-and-a-half years taking voice lessons and acting classes with reknown instructor Tena Curiel in Mexico City. Zuelika now lives outside of Seattle with her husband and adorable baby girl. In part one of today’s interview, Zuleika talks about how she followed her dream to enter broadcasting and became that voice on the radio. Part 2 of the interview will be podcast on Wednesday, November 21.

Luis Clemens, a Cuban American and editor of La Política, introduces us to this new publication about Hispanic voters in the U.S. In this podcast, he talks about the reasons why 2007 is a good year to launch such a specialized publication and politlcal blog. He also discusses what he found when he visited the Spanish web sites of the 2008 U.S. presidential candidates and gives an opinion about why candidates like U.S. Senator John McCain and former New York City mayor Rudolph Guiliani don't have campaign web sites in Spanish. Cantabria, a region in northern Spain, is an area that doesn't generally come to mind when most foreign tourists think of Spain. It is, however, an area filled with beautiful landscapes and a history that goes way back in time. Its most famous historical artifact are the cave paintings of Altamira, which date back to the mid-Palaeolithic period, thousands of years ago. Other historic caves also found in Cantabria are Puente Viesgo, El Pendo and La Gama.
