Suzi Dafnis: Dragons’ Den TV Star Reveals How She Got Her Start In Business, Exited From An $18M Events Company And Became A Pioneer Australian Online Marketer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:36

[ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] I have fond memories from 2005 watching the first Australian reality TV show focused on entrepreneurs – The Dragons’ Den. One of the “Dragons” on the show who critiqued and decided whether to invest in the companies pitched by various Australian entrepreneurs, was Suzi Dafnis. Suzi was known back then for exiting her $18 Million Pow Wow Events company. What I did not realize until after conducting this interview with Suzi, is how much of a pioneer internet marketer she is. She brought the legendary Corey Rudl down to Australia as a speaker during the late 1990s, she’s one of the first female Aussie Podcasters and has been doing webinars since before they were cool. Before the internet Suzi honed her craft doing direct response marketing, sending paper newsletters and mailouts to 30,000 people at a time, even constructing four-part “sequences” that were sent in the mail (the precursor to today’s autoresponder email sequences). No Retirement For Suzi After Suzi successfully exited her events company she had enough money to do whatever she wanted with the rest of her life. Although Suzi had no desire to return to the intense lifestyle of her previous business, she still had ambition to do more, particularly in the area of education. Suzi became CEO of Australian Businesswomen’s Network, an education company in Australia focusing on helping women succeed in business. As you will hear during this interview, Suzi uses the traditional information publishing model, including blogging and podcasting, lead magnets leading on to sequential email sequences, and sells digital training products and coaching. Needless to say Suzi and her business has a lot in common with what we focus on here at Entrepreneurs-Journey (information publishing), hence this made for a very enjoyable interview. How To Take An Online Teaching Business To The Next Level At the time this podcast was recorded Suzi’s business had 7 employees and a team of 20 writers who contribute to the website. As Suzi talks about her business, she doesn’t treat it like her own private coaching practice. She’s part of the content creation process, and participates in podcasts and webinars, but she’s building something bigger than just herself. How To Take Your Online Business Beyond Your Personal Brand #entrepreneurClick To Tweet If you’re currently in the business of selling teaching products, but you’d like to turn your enterprise into a true company that runs without you, listen to this interview.  Navid Moazzez: How To Make Up To $40,000 A Month Hosting Your Own Online Virtual Summit | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:25

[ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] I had the pleasure of living with Navid Moazzez for a week in San Diego in a house Natalie Sisson rented. It was a lot of fun living with so many online marketers and lifestyle entrepreneurs. Before this I came to know Navid through interviews he did with me. Navid, despite having English as a second language, conducted some of the most thorough interviews I have done. I was also surprised by how connected Navid was – he seemed to know everyone in my industry, and since he was relatively new to online business I was impressed by his networking speed. More recently Navid has become known as a Virtual Summits expert. However as you will hear in this interview, Navid wasn’t exactly clear on his niche from the start. He went through a process to find his specialty, one that I think a lot of people could learn from, especially if you are not clear on your topic now. How Navid Found His Specialty Navid experienced a journey of transformation to get where he is today. He grew up in Sweden, entered law school, and worked as a bank teller. While traveling overseas he met some guys who were living this amazing lifestyle earning money from the internet. This appealed to Navid, so he immediately began looking to the internet as a possible source of income. Of course like everyone new, he started with nothing. No speciality, no experience, and no clear direction. I think Navid made a fantastic choice when he decided to start a blog and podcast with one purpose – to learn from other people who were making money online. He was able to slowly build an audience and get educated from his podcast guests, while he figured out what market to focus on himself. Navid started to gain some traction as a result of investing a little extra time and money into the design of his blog and podcast. This in turn led him to land some clients who paid him to help them set up their own online presence because they liked Navid’s design so much. These first few clients delivered some cash flow, and also led Navid to narrow his focus down to personal branding, which is a big part of your online presence. Navid’s First Successful Summit As you will hear Navid carefully explain during this interview, his big breakthrough came from conducting an online summit focused on personal branding. He worked his butt off for several months, conducting 88 interviews for the summit, and then released it for free, along with a paid upgrade version that started at $97. By the time the summit was over he had made over $20,000+ and decided it was time to quit his job. From there Navid has continued to focus on virtual summits, running several more in partnerships and also helping to coach others to profit and grow their audience from a virtual summit through his Virtual Summit Mastery program. Listen In To Learn More… This is a great interview for you if you are yet choose a topic for your online business, to see how you can slowly progress and refine and build on your success until you find that sweet spot. Navid focused on taking action and helping people in his industry,

Belinda Weaver: How To Go From A ‘Paid-By-The-Hour’ Freelance Copywriter To Making Money While You Sleep Selling Information Products | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:39

[ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] Belinda Weaver offers one of the best examples I have ever heard of someone carefully planning and executing the transformation from full time employee, to freelancer (paid-by-the-hour or per contract), to independent blogging entrepreneur selling her own teaching products (earning money while she sleeps). As you listen to this story you will get the sense that Belinda was never ‘in trouble‘ so to speak, regarding the often scary decision to leave a well paying full time job. She carefully planned her escape and all but guaranteed that she would have ongoing work as a freelancer once she left her job. Then, once her freelance copywriting business had taken off, Belinda once again realized the need to transform from a person who gets paid to work on projects, to a teaching expert, who has digital products she can sell without requiring ongoing labour. If You Want To Quit Your Job, Follow This Example… If you’re reading this and you currently have a job that might be okay at times, horrible at other times, and you know it’s not what you want to do for the rest of your life, then you need to take careful notes while you listen to Belinda’s interview. Her path was relatively simple… * Get educated while working her job * Use new education as basis for freelance work * Grow freelance business during evenings and weekends, while still working full time job * Tell your boss you are going to quit, but still work for the company as a freelancer * Quit your job, grow the freelance business to as big as you are comfortable with * Transition away from completing freelance work yourself, to having others do it * Create a blog and digital products based on experiences gained in your job and freelancing * Slowly transition away from freelance work to selling digital products …and then you are making money while you sleep! Most of us have responsibilities, so making rash decisions like randomly leaving your job in the hope of figuring out how to make money yourself, is just not realistic. Belinda made the process much safer, by being careful with how she transitioned between each key change to her work. She had a sound strategy, made sue she was educated and could provide value, and slowly rebalanced what she focused on until she found herself living the dream. I personally never had a full time job, but I know a lot of EJ readers and listeners still do. This podcast should appeal to you if that is your situation.
