No Market Radio 0034 – Earth Day Air Conditioner | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:23:42

We're hand craftin' some WAV's onto our wav-canvas! I think we need an air conditioner in our studio room. In honor of Earth Day. We talked some more about the phenomena of crowd funding. The Heat Kills campaign I mentioned on the last show was funded! In the wake of the bombing at the Boston Marathon, a bunch of related crowd funding campaigns have popped up. (Including for a boat.) If I ever have the money to buy a boat, I won't settle for anything less than a mega yacht. And if I had that kinda money, I'd just secretly crowd fund things all day long. Somewhat randomly, I was made aware of a Facebook "event" for a local lost cockatiel. Jen and I spent about an hour on Friday morning searching for the missing bird. I recently clipped one of our cockatiel's wings for his own health and safety. I made a week's worth of breakfast burritos! I have trouble with tying shoelaces and untying knots. This is why I'd never make it on the TV show "Survivor." We played the song "Wreckage" by Silver Lake Chorus. Find this song in our ongoing Spotify playlist. We went thru another exciting round of Table Topics. Jen is now writing movie reviews! You can read the first couple here: Evil Dead (2013) and Evil Dead (original).  No Market Radio – 0033 Efficient-A-Sizing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:00:17

We are back, and recording on a Saturday night (the best time for "making pods"). Neither one of us had a whole lot of energy for this show, but we managed to find some interesting stuff to talk about anyway. * I actually went outside (and had sushi) (and saw a palm tree made of balloons). * We briefly discuss the wide variety of foods at restaurants in downtown SLO. * Despite this, Shawn only goes to a few places. This concerns him. Pluto's Louisa's Place Woodstock's Mo's Natural Cafe Que Pasa Muzio's (which is no longer there): * Shawn was a guest on Nathan's App-A-Day Podcast number 300. * A discussion about the different ways that people listen to podcasts led to: Shawn: I'm, like, the last person on Earth that is always syncing their iThing to their i.... mac, or whatever they got on their desktop. Shawn:Am I just ... efficient-a-sizing my self, or am I crawling into a box and going: "NOOOOOOO!" I don't think I'm doing that. Shawn: Am I, like, turning into some sort of... stale.. middle-aged-person now? * Big Announcement: The Inside My Head podcast is coming back soon-ish! * Anybody know where I can get a job as a fact-checker? Let me know! (I'm good at it!) * We read, and respond to, listener email and Tweets. Thank you to: Jon from Seattle, Nathan, David, Nevik, Erk, and Colin (who likely didn't know we "borrowed" a clip from Ourobouros). * SongPop @Songpop1 Shawn played a little bit of "Asleep" by The Smiths: * Find out when your Twitter Birthday is (if you care about stuff like that). * CrowdTilt sounds like a really good thing. We talk about one that was trying to raise money to help prevent heat related diseases and death. (Since this episode was recorded, this one managed to get the amount of money that was requested). * We also mention another one that was to help a family have more children, and a third one that was to help a man who was living in his car with two dogs after a job fell through. * We talked a little about Kiva, which is another crowd-funded type thing. * We played a song by Efterklang called "Apples:" Listen to this song as part of our

 No Market Radio 0032 – Transgendered Eagle | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:02:51

We recorded a midnight podcast! We got a new Brita water-filtering pitcher. Apparently, its name is Bella. Our previous episode was saved thanks to the Mixlr recording of our live show. Jen talked about developments with her health insurance. That reminded me of these classic Eagle Insurance TV ads: We played the song "So Low" by The Controversy. Jen picked a question from our collection of Table Topics cards. I gave a Couch to 5k update. I'm concerned about whether or not I'll be able to do my walk/jog today because the SLO Marathon is happening.  No Market Radio 0031 – Black Hole of Happiness | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:21

We recorded this one live via Mixlr! And we even had a few people show up to listen in. We were both experiencing low energy levels. Most likely due to whatever the Earth is putting into the air right now. I tried to offset this by drinking a mediocre bottled coffee beverage. Nathan, Nevik and Ben joined us during the live show. We found out that if you follow our account on Mixlr, you'll get an e-mail alert when we go live. We picked up a pizza earlier in the day from our new favorite hippy grocery store. We were surprised to find an actual pizza pan in the bottom of the box. Facebook is an endless Pit of Sorrow. Also, a comment (thru Facebook!) from Ken Turetzky. I gave an update on my latest experience with Couch to 5K. We got a card in the mail warning us of foreign lottery scams! Jen needs a new external hard drive. We played the song "Say Sayonara" by JOANovARC We introduced a new segment called Table Topics, based on this.  No Market Radio 0030 – Cheeto Batteries | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:48:07

We recorded this exciting podcast last night. Live via Mixlr! Jen was sick. And I kinda was, too. I told her it's OK, tho because it's not her fault she was made wrong. We went thru a couple rounds of listener feedback during this episode. I unveiled our two-prong Mission Statement: 1.) Heal the world. 2.) Get rich or die tryin'. Next year will be my 20-year high school reunion. I decided I'm only going if I can legitimately show up in a chopper. We played a voice mail from Robert. I also want to wear cape-appropriate attire to the high school reunion. We replied to Robert's voice mail and talked about how we used to record multiple Hyper Nonsense episodes in one night. We got a door hanger from Charter telling us that we were receiving "illegal" TV service we didn't even know about. We went over feedback we received from Nathan, Matt, David and Erk. Follow me on Spotify! I did some live video testing using CamTwist and Livestream. We discussed the correct ways to participate in Earth Hour. I introduce my new character, Pod Passion Android Guy. I talked about my new iMac stand. I gave an update on my experience using the Couch to 5k app. We played the song "Kiss Me" by Laney Ann Thompson. Find this song as part of our ongoing Spotify playlist. Our last bit of "feedback" was a kind donation we received from David via our Tip Jar. Thanks, David!  No Market Radio 0029 – Not Earth Day | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:30

We recorded this episode during Earth Hour (not Earth Day). Technically, it wasn't during the Earth Hour for the time zone we currently live in. However, it matched up to the time zone we used to live in, so we figure that's good enough. This meant we could not do a live show for this episode, or use our computers, microphones, the mixer, or the lights. Despite these limitations, we managed to record a podcast anyway, by using Shawn's iPhone. Yes, we are that dedicated to our lovely listeners! We discussed the following topics: * What's Earth Hour? (Hint: It's not Earth Day.) * The auditory differences between our studio and our bedroom. * Shawn's shares a "life changing experience" that he had the day before we recorded this episode. (Hint: It involves soda.) * Enzo's * We still aren't ready to talk about a couple of projects we have coming up. * What does a freelance writer do when she lacks paid writing work? * Books! We got lots of them. We are getting rid of lots of them. We talk about why. This time, I'm the one with some interesting quotes: * "That's the guy that cut off his ear. There's his painting!" * "There's no stability in teaching!" * "What are all these books doing in the Apple store?" * "It's mine forever... until I sell it." * This, naturally, leads to a discussion about "The Evil Bookstore", changes in the book industry, and the pros and cons of eBooks vs. paper books. * Redigi * We also started talking about digital books vs. digital music, and the issue of storage. Music by: * Moreish, with a song called "Reason to Die" Leave a comment below. Or send an e-mail to info(at)nomarket(dot)org Follow No Market on Twitter.  No Market Radio 0028 – The Net Pie | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

In the last episode, we promised that we would record another episode on Wednesday of this week - and we did! Imagine that! We did this one live on Mixlr again. It doesn't seem to have any ads (unlike other companies that let people stream podcasts live) and we like that! * Shawn is "not really well today". Mercury is not in retrograde, so that's not the reason why. He's a little "off" in this episode, so it's probably good that I've started doing the show notes. Shawn shares more about how his brain has gotz the dumbz today. * Due to this, he came up with some interesting sentences like these: - "I can't blame my problems on Mercury for a whole three months." - "I'M MAKIN' PODDDDS!" - "Burn it in yer burn barrel" - "You can't not tell me that all of nature's creatures don't love having more chlorofluorocarbons." - "I just don't think.. with as off as I feel right now, I just don't think I should be swingin' a huge knife blade around". And my favorite one: - "For so many long, of the times... the thing is is that.. weeee... were having troubles... I mean, in the sense that, like...Jen used to work more." * We give listeners a brief "behind the scenes" of Hyper Nonsense was like. * How do we get Zyrtec to be a sponsor of No Market Radio? * We share a comment that David VanSunder was kind enough to leave for us, and we respond to it, too. * Last episode, ROOStar was in the live chat room, and he sent us this article from Infinite Dial to read and discuss. We were out of time to do it for that episode, so we put it into this one. * This eventually leads to a discussion about people playing video games and streaming it online and other people going online to watch people play video games. * Shawn talks about his first dental appointment in 12 years! He shares why it took him so long to finally see a dentist, and what happened on his "dental adventure". * Jaws from the James Bond movie. * Somehow, we got into a conversation about what Shawn edits that I could, quite possibly, start editing for him. * This show includes another SongPop challenge - live! * Shortly before the SongPop challenge started, Ben sent Shawn a comment on Twitter about the Couch to 5K app that he mentioned in the previous episode. Obviously, this meant I immediately needed to get Ben into the chat room. SO. MUCH. FUN! * Shawn has been posting stuff on eBay. Anybody want it? * We played the song "Manner of Traveling" by Hot Fiction. Shawn picked this one out. (Listen to this via our ongoing Spotify playlist.) * Shawn shares a little bit about his OCD with y'all. * Enjoy the on air "planning the podcast meeting" as we try an figure out when to record another episode of No Market Radio.  No Market Radio 0027 – Very NPR-y | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We're back! This could be described as our St. Patrick's Day episode, (as done in the style of NPR). So, naturally, there is lots of talk about alcohol and a Celtic song in this one. It was the very first episode that we did live on Mixlr. This episode is also the first one where I'm doing the show notes instead of Shawn (something that has never happened in our entire history of podcasting together). * Thank you to ROOStar and MooGyver for hanging out with us on Mixlr! * Those of you who are really bored can check out the trial run that Shawn did on Mixlr. It's archived there, so why not? Boozin'! * We share the story of how we managed to find the Carolans at the BevMo. * Carolans is gluten-free * BevMo! * Dan Murphy's * Bailey's - not gluten-free * Jack Daniel's - is gluten-free * Shawn shares the story of how he found his favorite drink, ever. * Buffalo Trace Bourbon - possibly gluten-free Not Boozin'! * Shawn shares his story about learning how to coffee. * Surprise visits from strangers, bearing Starbucks through Favor. * What's in McDonald's Shamrock Shakes? (You may not want to know). * Try this Copycat Shamrock Shake instead. You can do it with either milk or soy (depending on your allergies). This, of course, leads to a conversation about McRib, and McPizza and a discussion about fast food places going out of business. R00Star sent us a link to an NPR article about some of the weird stuff Elvis ate. Makes you hungry, yet horrified. * Moving towards better health, Shawn reviews an app called Couch to 5K. Video Games * Listen to the very first ever (it's actually the second) No Market Radio live SongPop challenge! Do you play SongPop? See if you can beat Shawn. Send him a friend request at Facebook.com/shawnmx if you want to play. * ROOStar checked out the No Market website and found a lot of Diablo stuff. Why? Jen does a Diablo III podcast (with Nevik, Breja, and Lanntonio) called Shattered Soulstone on the Dawnforge network. Somewhere in here might be what Shawn was trying to remember: * Do they have porcupines in Australia? Is an echidna a porcupine? By the end, we bring it all back to St. Patrick's Day. In Chicago, they dye the river green for St. Patrick's Day: This got talked about earlier, but I thought it would be nice to see a video. * We played Talking to Walls, with a song called "Black Hearts Parade".  No Market Radio 0026 – I Have Nowhere Else To Go! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It's been a few weeks since we've recorded a new show, but we're back! And from our new studio. We have our first-ever No Market Radio in-studio guest in the form of Erk! Erk has been on a trip across America and he stopped at our studio here in San Luis Obispo before returning to Australia. Erk was also here in 2009 but during that trip, he stopped here first. We talked about headphones and our new studio, including Jen's new microphone stand: Erk recounted his time on the 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise. Then, Erk recounted his Amtrak train travels across America as well as a trip he took to Mexico City. Erk was a guest on the Afternoon Tea at the Aquarium podcast in Portland. From Portland, Erk went to San Francisco. While there, he got to ride a tram car that was originally in Melbourne. Erk bought a new microphone while he was in Portland. This podcast recording was the first time he got to use it. Erk flew from San Francisco to San Luis Obispo via Los Angeles. So, he flew over San Luis Obispo once before actually arriving here. After Erk arrived here in SLO, we had our first (of several during Erk's visit) meals at Denny's. Later, I went with Erk to his hotel so Erk could check in. LOLZ ensued. Then, Erk and I had dinner at Applebee's: The next day, Erk and I had lunch downtown and visited some mandatory SLO tourist destinations: The following day, we took Erk on a grocery-shopping tour of SLO. Erk picked a song by Doro to finish out the show. Stay tuned for bonus audio! Erk and I did a Pepsi taste-test challenge to see if we could identity Mexican Pepsi, American Pepsi and Pepsi Throwback (AKA "Australian" Pepsi)! Leave a comment below. Or send an e-mail to info(at)nomarket(dot)org We'd love to hear from you! Subscribe to the podcast via RSS or iTunes. Follow No Market on Twitter. Click the play button below to get Erk'd now!

No Market Radio 0025b – Success and FAIL | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It's our first podcast since we set up the new studio! Too bad we didn't really get to use it... We had hoped that we'd be able to use Jen's current podcasting headset with our mixer, but it didn't work. I bought a new desk! And it was a bit of an ordeal getting it from the store to the house and then setup. We had to move a big, heavy glass display case out of the studio room. It turned out to be not really all that bad. L-shaped desks. Mine is real. Jen's is fake. I learned some valuable lessons about trusting the manual when it comes to something like building a desk. We saw Shatner's World here in San Luis Obispo. We really enjoyed the show.

It's been a couple weeks but we're back with a new podcast! Jen is on the show! And she could be described as feeling... "spritely?" We've been doing some serious moving around of things at home in an attempt to make our living and working spaces a bit more comfortable. We have our own washer and dryer now! The "laundry hut" where we've been doing our laundry over the last few years has its fair share of problems, which we discussed here. Hence, we're super excited to have our own appliances. I've sold off most of my cassette and CD collections via eBay. We're in the process of revamping our studio room. Leave a comment below!  No Market Radio 0023 – Chairmageddon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It's a new podcast! Hopefully without any static interference. It's raining again here in San Luis Obispo. We can use the rain in California. I have a new chair and it's making me dumb. In related news, I highly recommend paying for a replacement plan when you buy a chair from Staples. I'm not good at sleeping late. We've been to the post office a couple times this week. Once, to ship Christmas gifts, another time to ship things that were sold on eBay. Some tips for shipping packages when the post office is full of n00bz. There was no spisode 0022 due to quality control issues. I'm selling what's left of my music collection on eBay and that's OK. Speaking of eBay auctions, someone has listed four rare Radiohead demo tapes on eBay for $50,000. I discussed a story about how a rare Beatles audition tape was auctioned for a lot of money. We experienced a sonic boom earlier this week. Speculation abounds. Our song of the day is "Adventures In Solitude" by The New Pornographers: You can listen to this song thru our ongoing Spotify playlist. Leave a comment below! It'd be awesome if you did.  No Market Radio 0021 – TattoaDaddy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Its time for an early Sunday show! I recorded this one kinda early. Jen was still sleeping. Also, she's very busy this week with her writing work. We got our first voice mail! And it was from lady race car driver Danica Patrick! Jen received a letter in the mail from a lawyer. If you want to send us a letter (or something else that's cool), here's the address: No Market P.O. Box 15526 SLO, CA 93406 I read an article about how our favorite (sorta) new grocery store chain, Fresh & Easy, is probably gonna close. I covered another article about a guy who's going to have a Romney-Ryan tattoo removed from his face. (That reminded me of the Zune tattoo guy.) The frog that you might've heard in the background of our last episode is still out there. We've named him "Toad Croakrane." As another aside to the Romney-Ryan tattoo head guy, I was reminded of the guy who sold advertising space on his forehead. I commented on an article about a plane that crashed in Chicago 40 years ago. (Here's the Tumblr post that lead me to this story.) Today's song of the day is "Do You Hear" by Cub Scouts: Listen to this song thru our ongoing Spotify playlist. Jen and I appeared as guests on Erk FM episode 300. Go listen to it! Also, be sure to check out the holiday music advent calendar Jen has put together. We'd be so happy if you left us a comment below! Or e-mail us: info(at)nomarket(dot)org.  No Market Radio 0020 – The Old Pods | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It's the last No Market Radio for this year's NaPodPoMo. Hence, it was time to have Laura on as a guest! It's been raining here in San Luis Obispo. And it's cold where Laura is in Georgia. Laura is, like me, a NaPodPoMo veteran. We discussed our feelings on how NaPodPoMo has changed over the years and where it's at now. I asked Laura about her experiences working with the podcasting track at Dragon*Con. We talked about podcasts of the past and dealing with hate mail (Laura has had some, I haven't). (Frog!)  No Market Radio 0019 – 20 Minutes Of Pure San Luis Obispo Rain | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:04

It's raining this week in San Luis Obispo. This place ain't exactly the desert. But it doesn't rain here often, either. So in honor of this somewhat rare occurrence, I opened a window here in the studio and propped my iPhone up on the window sill. This is a (mostly) unedited recording of today's rainfall. Enjoy!
