Gillnetters account for a large percentage of the commercial fishing fleet of New England. Though its history is centuries-old, beginning with the Native Americans, contemporary gillnetting took hold only in the 1970's with the modernization of the small boat fleet from handlining and longlining.

Part 03- Weir Fishing on Nantucket Sound | Play in Popup.
There are only a handful of these traditional fishing traps remaining in the world, three of them are here on Cape Cod. This one is run by the Lucas Trap Co. in Chatham on Nantucket Sound. Fishing mostly for mackerel and squid, each year sees more and more seaweed created from the encroaching residential septic systems.

Part 01- Lobstering on the Benjo
Experience a day on a Cape Cod lobster boat. Ride out through the choppy, early morning swells and accompany the lobstermen as they haul their traps, sorting and banding these ancient crustaceans. Underwater footage reveals the lobsters in their native habitat, feeding on fish and kelp, then follows them into the traps as they're hauled topside.
