Valentinus, the Valentinians and The Gospel of Truth - Brother Zagreus shares an odd notion, and then moves on, discussing the 2nd Century Gnostic Valentinus and reading from the Gospel of Truth. Anti-Heretical, proto-orthodox writers Irenaeus and others attacked Valentinus and his followers with great vigor. Until the discovery of the Gospel of Truth and the other Gnostic writings at Nag Hammadi in Egypt, we had few original writings of this great Gnostic poet, prophet, theologian and catholic priest. Even still, the remnants of their writings preserved in quotation in the works of those who wrote against them made Valentinus and his school look better than their enemies as time went by. |
