Anti-Social Peckham?

Life With A Gun
After the murder of another teenager in South London, a young man speaks candidly to Radio Peckham about his involvement with weapons. From being on both sides of a gun to ?slicing' someone with a sword, the life of a young man caught up in a territorial war is laid bare. This show is a no-holds-barred look at one of the most talked about problems facing London's urban communities. Also featured in the show is an interview with Lee Harper-Penman, a youth worker mentoring teenagers known for carrying guns and knives. Our other studio guests include ex-gang-member Jennifer Blake and Super Intendent Victor Olisa.

In this show, Radio Peckham looks at extreme religious behaviour, through the experiences of the people who live and work here. We look how faith groups contribute to our community, and see how they're coping with criticism from the media using the label 'religious extremism'. In the studio, presenter Shane Carey welcomes Professor Noibi from the British Muslim Association, Catholic Canon James Cronin and Phil Stokes from the Evangelical group Southwark For Jesus, alongside Phil Nichol from the London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard and local resident Sally Wilson. This show features an interview with a formerly Islamic woman affected by honour killing, which some listeners may find disturbing.

Queens Road Fun Day: The Cossall Estate
On May 12th the Cossall Estate was overtaken by cheerleading teams, DJ workshops, stone-carvers and more, as part of the first in a series of days aimed at finding out what local people would like done to improve the area. Radio Peckham was there to record people's thoughts of the day and the estate, plus cheerleader chants, DJ workshops and interviews with Russell Proffitt and Adrian Newman of the Peckham Programme, who funded the day.

The Last Drag!
Is the UK becoming a nanny state? As the smoking ban comes into force on the 1st July, Radio Peckham is asking what effect this will have on our community. Through talking to local residents and businesses, we find out what people think and look at how the ban will be enforced in Southwark. Points raised by local residents are put to a panel of studio guests including the landlord of Peckham pub The White Horse, a Project Support Officer from the Smokefree cacmpaign, and local MP Harriet Harman.

Getting Tough?

Your Round? – Alcohol Awareness
90% of adults in Britain drink alcohol, and for most people drinking is a normal sociable activity. Alcohol awareness week runs from the 7th ? 14th May, and Radio Peckham has teamed up with Safer Southwark Partnership to bring you an open, frank discussion of alcohol's place in our community. We talk to local pub goers about why Peckham's pubs are important, and investigate how and why sociable drinking can turn into a long term alcohol problem. A recovering alcoholic relates her own battle with drink, and studio guests discuss how best to support victims of alcohol misuse. Shane Carey is joined in the studio by local pub landlord Bill Skehan and Bar Manager Robert, Jamie Wilson - a local resident affected by alcohol misuse in his family, Alcohol Recovery Counsellor Jane Ucrifer, Tanya Barrow from Southwark Council's Drugs and Alcohol Action Team and Phil Atkinson from Southwark Primary Healthcare Trust.

The Welfare Reform Show

"Space Platform" - The Artist Show

Gang Life
Following 3 recent murders in Peckham, including the shooting of 15 year old schoolboy Michael Dosumnu in his own bedroom, everyone is asking what can be done to stop the violence. Andrew Payne puts forward the views of the youth and local residents in Peckham in the wake of the murders. He also gives young people in the studio a chance to question a panel of officials over the problem of how gun violence is being handled. Members of the panel include Superintendent David Chinchen of Southwark Police, Labour Councillors Tayo Situ and Gordon Nardell and Uanu Seshmi of the Boyhood to Manhood Foundation. The show was filmed by London Tonight and will be broadcast on ITV at 6pm on thursday 15th Feb.

Radio Peckham and the World Economic Forum
On Thursday the 18th January ten young people came along to Radio Peckham to ask what the station is all about. They were all taking part in a programme called Greenwich Forum, in which 60 young people from all over the world came to Greenwich to look into education and community initiatives. They plan to come up with a set of ideas for how to improve education all around the world, and present these to the next World Economic Forum in Switzerland. In this show, project coordinator Shane Carey for Radio Peckham answers their questions and sets out to explain what Radio Peckham means for the local community.
