April 21, 2008: A Theatre Revolution BeginsÂ2008 by Neighborhood Stage Productions, LLC This week we suspend our normal format in order to have a spirited discussion on how to turn around the decline in local theatre and make it a growing and viable in the 21st century....since we are eight years into it already! We discuss the four following radical recommendations: ELIMINATE the term "community theatre" Flip the new play development process from a top-down (Broadway down) model to a grass roots model with Broadway being the "pinnacle" of the process. Theatre companies with their own venue need to split the organization. One group should solely run the venue, while the other group solely produces the shows. Create a new, flexible,season pass, that can be used for any shows the bearer wants....at any participating theatre.
