This is the first Whitespider.org podcast and was recorded during a trip to Zion National Park by Ed Mendes and John Ford during the first week of November 2007. The trip came about after years of drooling over the beautiful images others have created of the park. The inspriation to create new images by the natural beauty of the area was the topic of podcast. I was reading through a friend's blog recently when I came across a topic that detailed the removal of just photographs from a local art gallery. The theme of the show was mainly the human form and many of the pieces from all mediums were nudes. However, only photographs were taken down which makes me ask the question why is photography still not viewed in the same matter as other art mediums and when isn't photography art? You can find the images in question in my current (January/Febuary 2008) column "Mendes on Photography" on whitespider.org. After years of darkroom printing I never thought I'd see the day where I was no longer using my enlarger and print trays. But I don't even miss them, I love Photoshop and the darkroom is now a store room. Good thing to, I have a lot of old computer parts that I don't know what to do with.
