Founded in 1968, MALDEF is the nation?s leading non-profit Latino legal organization. Often described as the ?law firm of the Latino community,? MALDEF promotes equality and justice through litigation, advocacy, public policy, and community education in the areas of employment, immigrant rights, voting rights, education, and language rights. In a recent report "Listening to Latinas: Barriers to High School Graduation" MALDEF explores the reasons why forty-one percent of Latina students do not graduate with their class in four years - if they graduate at all. Drummer and founding member Yocupitzio Arrellano says, ?The context in which we developed was this: injustice, neglect for the poor, and lack of avenues for free expression.? Their music combines rock, ska, punk, and other influences and Bloomington welcomes them back for their second year of performances at Lotus.
