Time To Think - November 30, 2007 - Fear Freezes
I?m quite sure we?ve all heard the well known phrase ?Frozen in Fear?. Well My Friend, it?s absolutely true, that some people do in fact hold themselves back from achieving the great things which their Creator put them on this earth to achieve, simply because they are literally scared to death to take a ?Leap of Faith?, and thus be prepared to bet on themself. These kinds of people are literally ?Frozen in Fear?, fear of the unknown, fear that they will not make it in life?.this is indeed deadly, and I do mean DEADLY. James Allen in his insightful book which is so full of wonderful wisdom ?As a man thinketh? wrote the following gem when talking about health ?The people who live in fear of disease are the ones who get it?. Now, just in case that powerful line didn?t sink in, let me repeat it ?The people who live in fear of disease are the ones who get it?. As I have written about before, there?s a Metaphysical Law called ?The Law of Attraction?. This law states as follows ?We ATTRACT...

Time To Think - November 29, 2007 - Give them a sense of self
Harry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote ?Lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime, and, departing, leave behind us footprints on the sands of time?. Now, having read those wonderful words of Longfellow, I wonder how many members of my reading audience really believe, that this applies to them. Well My Friend, unless a person has a true ?Sense of Self?, he or she will not be able to feel, that their life will in fact amount to anything worthwhile , never mind leaving some footprints behind which will be noticed by generations to come. In a previous article, I mentioned seeing Dr Jackson President of Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York being interviewed on Tony Brown?s Journal on PBS. He was talking about The Male Empowerment Center that he had established at the college. At this center he caters to the male students, who previously had not being doing all that well academically. One of the phrases which Dr. Jackson used in talking about his work is in fact the t...

Time To Think - November 28, 2007 - The Pendulum is swinging
You know, it just occurred to me as I started to write this particular article, that we don?t see a whole lot of clocks today, with pendulums swinging back and forth. So many of the younger generation may not even know what a pendulum is; so let?s go to our dictionary to get an accurate definition of the word. Webster?s New World Dictionary defines the word ?Pendulum? as ? A body hung from a fixed point so as to swing freely to and fro under the combined forces of gravity and momentum; often used in regulating the movement of clocks?. Of course, those of us who have seen, what we used to call a ?Grandfather Clock? will indeed be familiar with the pendulum which swings from left to right, as we listen to the audible Tick-Tock-Tick of the clock. So, is that all I?m writing about here today, many may say? No indeed, there?s obviously a whole lot more meaning in the title of this article ?The pendulum is swinging?. What I?m really getting at here today is The FACT, that as the ?Pendulum...

Time To Think - November 27, 2007 - The essense of perfection
In Webster?s New World Dictionary it defines the word ?Perfection? as ?1. The act or process of perfecting 2. The quality or condition of being perfect; extreme degree of excellence according to a given standard 3. A person or thing that is the perfect embodiment of some quality?. Incidentally, the same dictionary defines the word ?Perfect? as ?Complete in all respects; without defect or omission; sound; flawless?. The definition of the word ?Essence? is ?Something that is or existing, entity?. So you may say, what exactly is Reilly writing about today, who or what is ?The essence of Perfection?? My Friend, I?m writing about you and me, and every other human being presently occupying planet earth. We are ALL ?The essence of Perfection?, for God, the Creator of The Universe resides WITHIN us All 24/7. In Dr. Wayne Dyer?s book ?Wisdom of the ages?, which I find myself using as a reference again and again, he has a chapter on ?Perfection? where he writes as follows ?The way to a peacef...

Time To Think - November 26, 2007 - Crisis leads to change
There?s no doubt about it, we ALL during our short sojourn on planet earth, will experience a series of crisis in our lives. We?ll encounter crisis in our personal life, in business, in relationships, in religion, and in our country. Now, many look upon crisis in an extremely negative fashion; however, once again I want you to get the concept into your head, that there really is nothing bad in life, that everything is in fact in ?Divine order?, and is therefore ultimately for our overall good. I?m once again talking about seeing everything in our life in a totally positive light, not so much concentrating on the problems which we ALL encounter from tine to tine, as seeing ?Opportunities for Growth?. Yes indeed, as we all reflect on our life, I?m quite sure, that many of our most serious crises, have indeed assisted us in actually changing our life for the better. Let?s get specific now with some actual examples. I knew someone some years ago who was fired when the company he had wor...

Time To Think - November 23, 2007 - Why the bad attitudes?
Talk shows on both radio and television can indeed be most beneficial, and can assist us in getting an abundance of useful knowledge. In fact, I get many great ideas from listening to talk shows. However, we all need to fully understand, that many of the so-called ?Experts? who we hear on some of these talk shows, in effect don?t really have a clue as to what they?re talking about. So we need to use our judgment to ascertain if the various experts who appear on these talk shows, do in fact know what they?re talking about. As an actual example of what I?m talking about here today; I was listening to a particular talk show on T.V. in my hometown just last night, and the guest being interviewed was a so-called expert in the field of manpower training & development. Now the host asked the following straight-forward question ?What are the CAUSES of the very bad attitudes which far too many people display in the workplace in The Bahamas?? I thought to myself, this is surely a simple quest...

Time To Think - November 22, 2007 - Creative Intolerance
At the time of writing this particular article, a development company is about to commence work on a huge project on the western end of the island of New Providence. The multi-million dollar project involves the building of an upscale hotel, a world class golf course, and many multi-million dollar homes. The development will provide a whole lot of jobs which are vitally needed for Bahamians, and will also provide considerable income for the government. Now, as with all developments of this kind, wherever in the world they are, some inevitable changes will need to be made, which may indeed inconvenience some people. However, as I said, this is inevitable and is always factored into the equation where growth is anticipated. But My Friend as we all know only too well, people the world over are inclined to resist change, even though the change is going to usher in progress. Now, the recently formed new government of The Bahamas and the developers of the project called a ?Town Meeting? t...

Time To Think - November 21, 2007 - Retired or rewired?
I remember writing an article some time ago entitled ?Don?t dare retire?. In that article I told the story of Dr. Maxwell Maltz, whom I had the distinct pleasure of working with some years ago. Incidentally, Dr. Maltz was one of the world?s foremost Plastic Surgeons, and he was the Author of the million selling book ?Psycho-Cybernetics?, which is the definitive book on self-image psychology. At the time of my association with Dr. Maltz he was both world famous, and extremely well off financially. However, he was always extremely busy giving lectures all over the world, despite the fact that he was in his late sixties. Apparently, as he relayed the story to me one day, his next door neighbor asked him why he hadn?t retired as he was indeed rich and famous. Dr. Maltz simply replied by saying in all of his wisdom ?You can?t retire from life?. Oh how true that is. The State of Florida in particular is full of people, who have worked real hard all of their life up north in places like Ne...

Time To Think - November 20, 2007 - Causes can't find solutions
As I have written about recently, the crime rate in The Bahamas has escalated in the past few years, and is now, in my opinion, and indeed in the opinion of others, completely out of control. Recently the government decided to appoint yet another of their ?Panels? or ?Committees? to seek some answers, as to how to deal with this very serious threat to the overall wellbeing of the people and the country. Now it appears to me, that when the government, any government appoints committees or commissions to examine the causes of crime, and then come up with practical solutions to combat it; these committees always appear to be made up of the same kind of people, who in my opinion, are those who are in fact mainly responsible for the rise in crime in the first place. Yes indeed, the panel of people who are charged with coming up with solutions to dealing with the very serious situation which exists in The Bahamas today, is comprised of, God help us all, Politicians, Religious Leaders, Pol...

Time To Think - November 19, 2007 - Christian arrogance
From my brief studies into the life of Jesus The Master Teacher, he was indeed a humble, and extremely loving person; he was certainly not by any stretch of the imagination, what we?d call arrogant. And yet today at the beginning of the 21st century some 2000 years later, I find that too many of his so-called followers are arrogant in the extreme, as they haughtily proclaim that unless you believe exactly as they do, you and your life is dammed, and you?re on the fast track to Eternal Damnation. Oh how terribly arrogant and indeed self-righteous these so-called followers of The Master Teacher can be. Now, let me give you a specific example as I do like to talk about concrete FACTS, rather than ramble on in an ambiguous manner about what may have, or could happen. There?s a particular commercial radio station in my home town, who have by their own volition opted to play so-called sacred music, from early on Sunday morning right up to the midday hour. This is done to accommodate the n...

Time To Think - November 16, 2007 - Do you need to relearn?
Alvin Toffler is quoted as saying ?The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write; but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn?. Boy oh boy, he certainly said a mouthful there. But My Friend, he?s absolutely correct in what he so wisely said. There?s no doubt about it, so many of us have been taught so much in our youth which is in fact incorrect; so we need to as mature adults, as Alvin Toffler said ?Unlearn? and then ?Relearn? The TRUTH before we can move on to enjoy a meaningful life, that will in the end be satisfying to the soul. This is why I?ve advocated in these articles again and again, the vital importance of developing a ?Questioning Attitude? toward literally everything, which we were taught when we were young. As that well known Japanese Proverb puts it ?He who asks a question is a fool for a minute. He who never asks a question remains a fool for the rest of his life?. Oh how true that unfortunately is. So many of us were taught to ...

Time To Think - November 15, 2007 - Superstitious Savages in the jungle
On the program ?Sunday Morning? on CBS, they included a feature dealing with some famous people, who although in their eighties, are still extremely active and indeed enjoying life to the fullest. One of those interviewed was Hugh Hefner Founder of the Playboy Empire. He was asked the question by the interviewer, is there anything in the world he?d like to change. He replied, that he wished people were more tolerant with each other, particularly when they held differing beliefs. He then used the phrase which is in fact the title of this article. He said, and quite rightly in my opinion, that far too many people throughout the world are acting like ?Superstitious savages in the jungle?. What a great line, and unfortunately it does indeed perfectly describes so many people who are, what Eric Hoffer in his book refers to as ?True Believers?. I?m obviously talking about the fanatics of the world, the Religious Fanatics, the Political Fanatics, the Union Fanatics who are indeed acting ex...

Time To Think - November 14, 2007 - Spirituality yes --- Religion no!
There is a subject which I find myself continually returning to as I observe a country, The Bahamas, which continually refers to itself as a Christian Country, slowly but surely start to disintegrate right before our collective eyes. Whenever we have a problem, like for example the terrible escalation of crime, a committee or commission is appointed by government, and prominent religious leaders are always appointed to these committees. But My Friend, I honestly believe, that so many religious leaders are themselves compromised to the point, that no one is really listening to them as they just mindlessly repeat one scripture after another, whilst in an extremely vengeful manner insist on the ungodly practice of public hanging. No My Friend, religion is not the answer to all of the problems in the world, for it is indeed tainted. However, True Spirituality is most definitely the answer. As I have written about on many occasions in the past, I believe implicitly in a Creator, a Higher...

Time To Think - November 13, 2007 - Criminality, immorality and perversion
One of the worst things that any person can do, is to actually deny their destructive behavior. As we all know only too well, countless thousands of people around the globe are indeed burying their head in the sand, so to speak as they absolutely refuse to admit some of their destructive habits, which are in fact causing havoc with their life. Now, until these people own up to their destructive behavior, and then vow to actually change their life and affairs; they will continue to go rapidly downhill, ending up in the depths of failure. Well My Friend, the exact same scenario applies to a country. If the populace of any country collectively keep their heads in the sand, thus not owning up to the many shortcomings of the country, total destruction and ultimate disaster will inevitably materialize. After all, we?re all more than familiar with the phrase ?Nero fiddled while Rome burned?. Well, unfortunately there are a whole lot of people in The Bahamas where I presently reside who are...

Time To Think - November 12, 2007 - Stop being longwinded!
I wrote an article recently about the importance of listening, really listening to what others are saying to us. This is of course absolutely vital if effective communication is to take place between people. Now someone called me up to discuss the contents of that article, and she stated, that one of the reasons why some people interrupt others when they?re still talking, is that the person is so longwinded and thus never seems to get to the point, they just go on and on like the Energizer Bunny, speaking incessantly, but actually saying very little of significance. I thought to myself at the time, she does indeed have a most valid point. When we are expressing ourself we need to say what we have to say in as few words as possible. Now, in order to do this, we need to, as I teach in my ?Broaden Your Horizons? seminar ?Plan our messages?. In other words, we need to think BEFORE we speak. That?s right, when we wish to convey something to another person, we need to take a little time t...

Time To Think - November 9, 2007 - Union destruction
When the Union Movement came into being it was indeed something that was warranted as employers were, among other things, using child labor, and in general not paying workers a fair wage, or treating them with the dignity which they deserved. However, over the years the Union Movement has grown into, in my opinion, and I might add in the opinion of most thinking people, to be a most destructive movement worldwide. The blackmail, the continual threatening tactics used by the Union Movement worldwide, has and indeed continues to cause havoc in business and industry, and has been the major contributor to the annual rise in the cost of living. I predicted many years ago, that if the Union Movement was not curbed in The Bahamas, it would eventually contribute in no uncertain manner to the ultimate downfall of the Bahamian economy. Well My Friend, that prediction is unfortunately gradually becoming a sad reality. A couple of years ago a hurricane badly damaged a large hotel property, name...

Time To Think - November 8, 2007 - Kissing up and Kicking down
A couple of Saturdays ago, I watched the very informative program ?The open Mind? on PBS with Host Richard D. Heffner. On this particular show the guest was an intriguing gentleman by the name of Dr. Howard Gardiner. Incidentally, Dr. Gardiner is Professor of Cognition and Education at the prestigious Harvard University. Professor Gardiner was speaking about human behavior as it relates to getting ahead in life. At one point in the interview he said that far too many people, particularly in the business setting, are continually ?Kissing up & Kicking down? in a desperate effort to climb the corporate ladder to the highest rung. Oh how absolutely true that is. It is indeed most unfortunate, that so many people do in fact consistently remain in a mode, where they?re daily ?Kissing Up? to those whom they feel can assist them in moving ahead in the organization; whilst at the same time they spend an inordinate amount of time in ?Kicking Down?, or we might say ?Running Down? anyone and ev...

Time To Think - November 7, 2007 - All illness is mental
I was reading something recently about health and wellbeing. The particular passage talked about physical and mental illness. As I reflected on this passage for a moment, I thought to myself, that as every single event that occurs in our life is the direct result of the thoughts which we think; well then, surely ALL illness is indeed mental, as it commences likewise with the actual thoughts which we think, which then materialize as either a troubled mind or a compromised body. Yes indeed, as the title of this particular article states it ?All illness is mental?. One of my teachers was the late, great Earl Nightingale whom I started working with in 1968. I learnt so much of what I?m teaching today from Earl Nightingale. When I obtained a wonderful book which he had recommended and read it ?As a man thinketh? by James Allen, and which Earl constantly quoted from; I began to fully understand, that he in turn had learned so much of what he taught from James Allen. Time To Think - November 6, 2007 - What is truth?
I was watching a talk show on T.V. recently where The Host?s beliefs were obviously deeply rooted in conventional Christianity. He was interviewing, or to be more correct, grilling, interrogating two members of the Bahai Faith, which it was most obvious he did not agree with. This was most evident by his overall demeanor, his body language, his tone of voice, and his questions. The Host of course kept referring to The Scriptures, as if there was only one set of Sacred Scriptures in The Universe. It really does amaze me, how utterly arrogant so many so-called Christians can be as they talk about The Bible, as if it is the only book ever written about matters spiritual. Over the years, I?m delighted that I?ve engaged in considerable studies in Comparative Religions; so I am more than aware of the fact, that each man-made religion has it?s own book, its manual for its followers to be guided by. For example: apart from The Bible, there?s The Koran, The Bagvad Gita or Hindu Gospels, The ...

Time To Think - November 5, 2007 - Get away from them
I guess that most people as they initially read the title of this article, will be wondering who exactly am I referring to in the title ?Get away from them!?. In other words, who does the word ?Them? actually refer to. Well, I was watching Joel Osteen on television the other day, and he was discussing what he referred to as the ?Toxic Influences?, that many need of necessity to get away from. He was of course talking about people and places, which were most definitely not in our best interest to be associated with any longer. Let me give you a specific example from my own life. Many years ago, I earned my living as a Professional Musician. Now, at that particular time in my life, I used to consume large amounts of alcohol. So, I made a conscious decision, that as I wished to stop drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, that I most definitely needed to get away from the ?Club Atmosphere? which was so much a part of my lifestyle at that time. Time To Think - November 2, 2007 - Budgeting Time
As I have written about on several occasions in the past, time is, what I like to call, the Great Equalizer in life. We ALL, irrespective of our economic or social standing, have the exact same amount of time available to us. There are, as we all know only too well, especially those who are constantly saying ?I wish there were more hours in the day?; just 24 hours in each day,7 days in each week, and 52 weeks in each year. These are The FACTS! So, when it comes to time, we?re ALL equal as the exact same amount of time is available to The President of The United States of America, as is available to a laborer working on a building site. However, there is usually a vast difference in the way in which people use the time allocated them. In other words, some people get excellent use out of the time available to them, whilst others just squander it away. Now, I?m quite sure that just about all of my valued readers have heard that well know saying ?Time is Money?. This is indeed absolutel...

Time To Think - November 1, 2007 - Pain=Gain and Bad=good
I?m sure that we?ve all heard that well known saying ?No gain without pain? Well quite frankly, I believe it?s absolutely true. Let?s look at a few examples to prove our premise. When a person allows themself to get into bad shape physically thus threatening his or her actual state of health, and even the quality of that person?s life; a rigid program of exercise coupled with proper eating habits will be recommended, to get that person hopefully back into good physical condition. Abstinence from alcohol and all forms of drugs and cigarettes, will also be an essential part of the overall health regimen. Now to actually implement this program will indeed be quite painful at first for the person, and there?s no doubt about it, that person will have to endure many physical aches and pains as their overweight and out of shape body is subjected daily, to the rigors of regular exercise sessions at the gym. There will also be mental pain or anguish as the alcohol, drugs and/or cigarettes ar...

My Friend, the most important word which is repeated three times with exclamation marks after each word in the title of this article, is absolutely vital for you to understand it?s importance, and thus apply it in literally every phase of your life, that is of course, if you want to succeed beyond your wildest dreams. In Webster?s New World Dictionary two of the definitions of the word ?Control? are ?1. To exercise authority over; direct; command 2. To hold back; curb; restrain?. Yes indeed, if we wish to have a series of successful days, which will ultimately result in a successful life, there?s no doubt about it, we simply must exercise control over ourselves, in all that we do. We need to as the dictionary states, exercise authority over our every thought, word, and action as we proceed throughout the day?s activities. Yes My Friend, I honestly believe that each and every one of us has a Divine Destiny, and until we choose to follow the directions of our Creator and thus ?Submit to our Divine Destiny?, we will not be content. Yes indeed, if we want to excel, to succeed in the true sense of the word, there?s no doubt about it, we need to discover and fully understand exactly what our Creator, God prepared us for, and thus expects us to rigorously pursue during this existence on planet earth. Time To Think - October 29, 2007 - Helping people one by one
Let me commence today by asking you a simple question. Would you like to see a whole lot of changes take place in our present day world? Now I?m quite sure that the answer to that question is indeed in the affirmative, for just about everyone in my reading audience. As we look around the world today at the beginning of the 21st century, alas we don?t see a happy sight, thus I?m quite sure that many would indeed like to see many drastic changes take place, with regards to a whole lot of people?s actual behavior throughout the world, which could eventually impact the world and its people in a positive manner. However, I have a feeling that many will feel overwhelmed at such a task, that is the idea of changing the thoughts and actions of people around the globe. Time To Think - October 26, 2007 - Your personal renaissance
In history, The ?Renaissance? was a great revival of art, literature, and learning in Europe in the l4th, l5th,and 16th centuries, based on classical Sources; it began in Italy and spread gradually to other countries, and marked the transition from the medieval world to the modern. The expression ?Renaissance Man? is a term often used to describe a highly cultivated person who is skilled and well versed in many or, ideally, all of the arts and sciences. In Webster?s New World Dictionary one of the definitions of the word ?Renaissance? is ?A new birth; rebirth?. So My Friend, what I?m advocating here today, is that you make a very definite resolution to experience a New Birth, perhaps a Rebirth of your life in Totality; this is what I refer to in the title as ?Your Personal Renaissance?. Time To Think - October 25, 2007 - End conflict with love
Let?s face it, the world in which we all presently live at the beginning of the 21st century is full of conflicts. You My Friend, are inevitably going to encounter many conflicts throughout each and every day. Firstly, you?ll actually have conflicts with yourself, as you daily struggle to do what you know to be right. Then of course, wherever two thinking human beings come together with individual goals and individual thinking, conflict of one kind or another is virtually inevitable. Just ask those who are married if they encounter any conflicts with their spouse, and I?m quite sure, that they?ll admit that they do in fact have many conflicts with their partner. In the country where I presently reside The Bahamas, far too many of the youth of the nation are getting embroiled in conflicts, some of which end in deadly fashion as the parties to the conflict get into a physical altercation, which so often ends in death. Time To Think - October 24, 2007 - Thoughts become things
In the past I have always said ?Thoughts are things?. However, I believe that the actual title of this particular article ?Thoughts become things? more accurately depicts exactly what takes place with the creative process. As I have put it before the human mind is the ?Cradle of Creation?, for it is the thoughts which we harbor in our fertile mind, which eventually becomes our reality. George Bendall put it like this ?Since we are surrounded by the Intelligent Force that responds to our thoughts, then it is our very thoughts that will become Causes, which in turn become Effects?. Oh how well put there by George Bendall, and of course, the Intelligent Force which he is referring to, is our Spiritual Father, God. In the August 2007 edition of ?Creative Thought? magazine the following short piece written by John Lusk of Calabasas, California if most relevant to our theme for today; it reads as follows ?I scan the world around me and know it is merely constructed of thoughts and ideas. ...

Time To Think - October 23, 2007 - We're all instruments
As most of my regular readers will know, I?m a Metaphysician. Now, one of the basic precepts of Metaphysics is, that there is but ONE MIND in The Universe, and that ALL individual minds are expressions of, and are therefore part of, are linked to the ONE MIND. To put that concept in simple, plain language which we can all fully comprehend, it means that we are ALL a part of , are one with our Spiritual Father, God. Actually Jesus The Master Teacher articulated this particular belief when he said ?I and The Father are ONE?. So, in a nutshell, God, the Creator of The Universe and everyone and everything in it, lives 24/7 WITHIN us all at the very center of our being. So, the secret to a really great life is to let the Attributes, the Qualities of God flow through us as we daily go about living the good life. Or to put it as the title of this particular article does ?We?re ALL ?Instruments? of God?. In Divine Science it?s Principle and Practice, the following is written which is most a...

Time To Think - October 22, 2007 - Think small
In Eric Butterworth?s book ?Discover the power within you? published by Harper & Row of New York, chapter seven is titled ?Your thought is your life?. Here?s a short passage from that chapter ?Locked within the superconsciousness of man are the answers to all the problems, and the secret of all the mysteries that mankind will ever face. Man is a thinking being. The very word ?Man? comes from an ancient Sanskrit word which literally means ?To Think?. Through thinking, man has the possibility of knowing God and expressing the wisdom of Divine Mind. Man is the greatest concentration of divine energies in the Universe. He is the greatest natural resource. And the world of possibilities within man is still the great frontier?. What a really exciting concept this is. In other words, as I have written about again and again, it is the thoughts which we think which will in fact determine in the long run, the type of life we?ll have, and the quality of our experiences from day to day. Now mos...

Time To Think - October 19, 2007 - The defeminization of women
Webster?s New World dictionary defines the verb ?Feminize? as ?To make or become feminine or effeminate?. Feminization is of course the noun. Now, as the title of this particular article suggests, I believe that during the 20th century, and indeed continuing into the 21st century, we have been systematically defeminizing our beloved women throughout the world. I live in The Bahamas which basically is a Matriachial Society, which is run by women. I have noticed, that the higher a woman goes in business, or politics, or religion for that matter, the less feminine they appear to be. Of course, this trend started with the most destructive so-called ?Women?s Liberation? movement. This movement, in my opinion, has caused a whole lot of women to try to act and indeed be like men?.this is absolutely ridiculous! God, who obviously knew what he was doing, created men and women to be distinctively different from each other, each displaying unique characteristics, which were meant to attract th...

Time To Think - October 18, 2007 - Helicopter Parents
I was watching Dr. Wayne Dyer on PBS last week as he gave another of his inspiring and indeed insightful lectures. One of the points which he stressed was not to be too rigid in our approach to life, but to at all times be much more flexible. He then said, that this concept is especially important when dealing with children. Whilst parents obviously have to discipline their children, and teach them how to behave in a correct and indeed responsible manner, they have to establish a Code of Conduct which is appropriate for the children to follow; however, parents should not be too rigid with their children, thus being always ?on their case?, as the saying goes. Now, that may seem to be contradictory to some, but believe you me, it?s not. What it means in effect is simply this. Parents set the rules and they do their utmost to see that the children obey the rules. However, parents should not be constantly complaining about their children?s behavior, and thus be forever berating them. In...

Time To Think - October 17, 2007 - Negativity at the top
There is one most important FACT that I deal with daily in The Bahamas, and that is, that a whole lot of Bahamians unfortunately have very low self-esteem. This results in far too many people, who are walking around daily with very large ?Chips? on their shoulder, who display extremely negative, and indeed in so many cases, outright hostile attitudes to all whom they interact with throughout the day. Yes indeed, there are unfortunately a whole lot of people spread throughout the entire Bahamas, who do have extremely negative, disgusting attitudes. Now, the really frightening part of this very visible problem to me, is that so many people who are in management positions, are also negative in the extreme. As the title of this article puts it, there is so much ?Negativity at the top?. When I?m doing a presentation to any organization on my highly acclaimed ?Broaden Your Horizons? seminar, which deals ?in-depth? with the CAUSES of low self-esteem and bad attitudes; invariably I?ll be as...

Time To Think - October 16, 2007 - Stick to the point
As I have relayed to you my valued readers in the past, I do get some extremely complimentary e-mails and phone calls in response to the contents of these articles, which is indeed most gratifying. It?s really great to know that I?m impacting the lives of so many in a positive way. However, let me be perfectly honest, I also from time to time get some not so complimentary comments. Now invariably, when I do get any negative comments, it always appears to be in response to something which I?ve written about either politics or religion. It really is amazing how bitter, how insulting, how vitriolic so many people can be who are involved in religion, or affiliated with a particular political party. I guess that The TRUTH, which is what I write about in these articles really hurts. Now the main point which I wish to highlight here today is this. When I get these really nasty e-mails from political cronies or religious fanatics in response to a particular article, they usually completely ...

Time To Think - October 15, 2007 - Do you have a support group?
Dr. Napoleon Hill wrote a great book years ago which has helped so many people around the world to become outstandingly successful. The book was ?Think and grow rich?. It goes without saying, that I strongly recommend this insightful book to all who wish to fully understand the Universal Laws of Success, thus having a really fulfilling and contented life. At one point in the book Dr. Hill suggests, that we all get together, what he refers to as a ?Master Mind Group?. A ?Master Mind Group? is simply a group of ?Like Minded? people who are actually on the same ?Mental Wavelength? as we are, who think in like manner to us, and we regularly share our goals, our ambitions with this group of ?Like Minded? people. As they think in like manner to you, they will support you in all that you are striving to achieve. Now I believe that this is an excellent idea. We all need to have a ?Support Group? to give us encouragement as we daily pursue our goals and objectives, on the never-ending road t...

Time To Think - October 12, 2007 - What's your objective?
I remember well watching a program on T.V. some years ago, where the host was interviewing a group of young children on what they wanted to he when they grew up. One particular young boy of approximately ten to twelve years old when asked what he wanted to be, said that he?d like to be a Doctor. When he was asked further exactly why he?d like to be a Doctor, he smiled sheepishly and said ?Because Doctors make a whole lot of money?. I was absolutely shocked by this young boy?s brazen answer. On a similar interview program with young children in The Bahamas, when the interviewer asked one young boy what he wanted to be, he replied immediately ?I want to be a drug dealer?. How very sad both of these young boy?s answers were, for their sole objective in life, it would appear from their actual answers, was to make money! Obviously, they didn?t have a clue as to what life is really all about. As I have written about repeatedly in these articles, the purpose of life is #1. to discover who ...

Time To Think - October 11, 2007 - Delays are beneficial
Let me commence today by asking you a simple question. When you set your goals, do they always materialize exactly ?on time?? Now, my guess is, that is of course if you?re being totally honest here today, that the answer to that question for most people will be a resounding NO! Not everything works out as initially planned, as unforeseen circumstances crop up to delay us, or even sidetrack us as we relentlessly pursue our goals and objectives on the road to success. Although most people put a specific timeframe on the achievement of a particular goal, sometimes the goal does not materialize when we had anticipated. Yes indeed, so often in life we experience delays as we pursue our objectives. But, as I wrote about in another article some years ago ?God?s delays are not God?s denials?. Just because we didn?t achieve a particular goal ?on-time? is no reason to quit. And as the title of this article suggests, sometimes ?Delays are beneficial?. Now I?m quite sure that some aggressive pe...

Time To Think - October 10, 2007 - Leaders articulate a vision
There are alas a whole lot of people spread throughout this great big world of ours, who are presently in supposedly leadership positions, who are totally inadequate. Some of these people are supposed to be leaders in the political field, others are in business, still others are in the religious sector, and perhaps in the very destructive union sector of society; but unfortunately they fall terribly short. I am constantly reminded of the well known saying ?The blind leading the blind? for this is really what is happening in so many organizations in The Bahamas where I live. So, what is needed for people to be effective leaders, you may say? In Dr. Napoleon Hill?s great book ?Think and grow rich? he has a chapter on leadership where he lists the following eleven qualities which he feels a true and effective leader should be practicing daily in their lives. The eleven qualities of leadership according to Dr. Hill are as follows: #1. Unwavering Courage There?s no doubt about it, if you...

Time To Think - October 9, 2007 - Everything comes with a price
I?m quite sure, that just about everyone can remember the big breakthrough hit which Singer-Entertainer Billy Ray Cyrus had some years ago, and which actually launched his career in show business ?My Achy-Breaky Heart!, it was indeed a tremendously big hit around the world and put Billy Ray Cyrus on the map, so to speak. I watched Billy Ray being interviewed by Glen Beck on CNN a few evenings ago, and he uttered the phrase which is in fact the title of this particular article; he said ?Everything comes with a price?. Yes indeed it does. Now, the sad thing for me to observe all too frequently, is that far too many people are simply not prepared to pay the ultimate price which success in any field of endeavor, so often demands. Let?s face it, success in any field demands of us all, that we pay the price in time and effort, to firstly perfect our craft and thus succeed. Now, surely the very important question to be asked here today is this. Are you My Friend, prepared to pay the price ...

Time To Think - October 8, 2007 - We shouldn't lose anyone
I watched a wonderful interview on PBS television last Saturday morning. Actually, for those who are interested, Saturday morning on PBS is packed full of some very informative and indeed inspiring programs, which I would strongly recommend to all my readers. The program in question which I viewed was ?Tony Brown?s Journal? and Tony was interviewing an outstanding man by the name of Dr. Edison O. Jackson who is president of Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Jackson has established a Male Empowerment Center at the college which is apparently producing great results in inspiring the male students to be all they can be. This is truly significant for apparently among the African-American population in America, which Medgar Evers College mainly caters to, whilst the female segment have been doing very well and succeeding academically, the male population have been failing far too much. As a result of these very real facts, Dr. Jackson established the Male Empowerment Center...

Time To Think - October 5, 2007 - Be in 'The Moment'
Today?s lesson is indeed a most important one for everyone in my reading audience. Far too many people are living miserably in ?The Past? instead of living in ?The Now?. Your success My Friend, quite definitely does not abide in ?The Past?, your success lies in ?The Future?; therefore, you need to ?Get Over? whatever unpleasant events happened in ?The Past? and instead, as the title of today?s article wisely advocates, just ?Be in ?The Moment?. The only period of time that any of us have absolute control over is ?TODAY?, ?The Now?, this very ?Moment?. You My Friend, are completely in control of exactly what you wish to think and feel at this precise ?Moment in time?. However, far too many people are in fact living miserable lives today, simply because they have not yet let go of ?The Past? in their mind. And let?s not forget, that the human mind is in fact, as I have written about before, ?The Cradle of Creation? of our entire life story, good or bad. So, it logically follows; that ...

Time To Think - October 4, 2007 - You can say 'Yes' or ' No'
The simple title of this article is most important, and indeed should be deeply etched in the consciousness of those who wish to become successful, for as simple as it is, it does in fact contain within it the essence of having a happy, and completely fulfilling life. There are unfortunately a whole lot of people who believe, incorrectly of course, that they are victims, that the whole world for some unexplained reason is against them. Many who live their lives in this kind of hopeless and helpless ?Victim Mode?, may even feel that The Creator of The Universe, God is actually against them as they cry out in anguish, as did Jesus a particularly low point in his life ?Father, why hast thou forsaken me??. True, many people are in fact born into unfavorable conditions; however, there comes a time when hopefully these people, through education and an increased awareness of how life works, can stand up on their own two feet and thus walk away from their environment and previous lifestyle....

Time To Think - October 3, 2007 - Developing a peaceful spirit
In The Bahamas where I live, there has unfortunately been a spate of murders recently, which is causing many people to feel uneasy about the very sad situation, which presently exists in a previously peaceful country. Of course, on all of the talk shows people are commentating on the situation and giving ideas on how to combat it. So, I obviously got to thinking about it myself and how to overcome it. What is the answer to the present situation in The Bahamas, where so many people are resorting to violence, which all to frequently ends in the loss of a life. The answer My Friend, is to start from an early age to ?Develop a ?Peaceful Spirit? within everyone. That?s right, peace, true peace starts deep within the hearts and souls of people. There?s a very beautiful song which is sung in many churches throughout the world called ?The Peace Song?. The final line of that inspiring song is ?Let there be peace on earth, but let it begin with ME!?. Yes My Friend, the key to having a peacefu...

Time To Think - October 2, 2007 - Know when to shut up
I was watching the ?Judge Judy? program on T.V. recently. The particular case being tried appeared to be cut and dried in favour of the defendant. However, the defendant kept on putting his hand up as he obviously wanted to say something. Judge Judy gave him one of those looks of hers and said ?Put your hand down, can?t you see your winning the case?. After watching that particular program, I immediately wrote down the title of this article ?Know when to shut up?. Yes indeed, there?s a time for us to know when to keep quiet and thus not speak, and we?d all do well to fully understand this. In my book ?The Science of Selling? published by Futura Publishing of Boynton Beach, Florida in 1979 chapter ten is titled ?Overselling?. Here?s some of what I wrote in that important chapter ?Overselling is perhaps the worst sin of too many salespeople whom I?ve been associated with, especially during their training. Time To Think - October 1, 2007 - Stop fighting - start living
Perhaps this particular article just naturally flows from the last one. Why do I say that, you may query? Because, a whole lot of people in The Bahamas seem to be most prone to fight or argue with literally every, single person whom they come in contact with, each and every day. Yes indeed, there are an awful lot of people, and of course not just in The Bahamas, but in other parts of the world too, who spend so much of their valuable time fighting others, and usually about extremely petty matters. To all of these people with this serious character flaw I direct the command in the title of this article ?Stop Fighting, and instead Start Living?! My Friend, I honestly believe, that life is far too short to be spent in fighting, in continually arguing with others. No, God gave us our life in the first place, so that we can live it joyfully serving our brothers and sisters, and not to continually be in ?Fighting Mode? literally always looking for an argument. Time To Think - September 28, 2007 - Loud, Noisy, Rowdy and Rambuncious
Just in case anyone in my reading audience is not familiar with the word ?Rambunctious?, Webster?s New World Dictionary tells us that it means ?Wild, disorderly, boisterous, unruly, etc?. Now I guess that a whole lot of people will be wondering exactly what I?m writing about here today. In fact, I?ll guarantee that many are thinking to themselves at this very moment, who exactly are the people whom Reilly feels are in fact, loud, noisy, rowdy, wild, disorderly, boisterous, and unruly. Well My Friend, it?s a large segment of the Bahamian people. That?s right, I recently heard a high ranking official in The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism state on a radio talk show, that between 30 to 60% of the tourists who visit Nassau on cruise ships, don?t actually leave the ship while in port. And why, one may ask, do they not leave the ship? Time To Think - September 27, 2007 - Straighten up and fly right
As most of my regular readers will know, years ago I used to be a Professional Musician. I played what was referred to in those days as piano. However, in today?s modern jargon I?d probably be obliged to say, I played keyboard. I played in clubs, hotels, and at private parties, sometimes solo, but usually with my trio consisting of piano, bass, and drums. Now, at that time, one of my idols was Nat King Cole. There?s no doubt about it, he was a simply fantastic piano player and of course he had a really fabulous trio, to say nothing of his soothing, velvet voice. Back then, The Nat king Cole trio had a wonderful hit record titled ?Straighten up & fly right?, and I honestly believe, that that title contains and excellent ?Lesson in Living? for all of us, particularly those of us who have perhaps strayed away from the straight and narrow. My Friend, at this point, let me ask you a few simple questions. Firstly, have you just stopped trying to achieve one of your most cherished dreams, ...

Time To Think - September 26, 2007 - Go for it!
In the inspiring movie ?The Pursuit of Happyness? Will Smith says to his son ?If you want something?.Go for it!?. My Friend, surely this is a most important lesson for all of us to learn. A whole lot of people do indeed know exactly what they want in life; however, either through a lack of self-discipline or out and out fear, they?re literally frozen in time, so to speak, and thus not able to pursue their dreams. My first book was titled ?Success is Simple?. Now what exactly did I want to convey to the reading public with that title, and why did I chose it? Well firstly, I just love alliteration; and secondly, I don?t believe that it?s very difficult for anyone to really understand the basic Laws of Success, which must be applied daily if we wish to advance on the road to success. Well My Friend, what?s your honest answer to that loaded, but oh so important question? Time To Think - September 24, 2007 - What seeds are you sowing?
One of the definitions of the word ?Seed? in Webster?s New World Dictionary is ?The source, origin, or beginning of anything?. So My Friend, it is the seeds which we are planting today, which will be the origin, the beginning of our future. Again and again in these articles I emphasize the importance of what Emerson referred to as ?THE law of laws?, The Universal Law of Cause & Effect. This great law simply stated said, that for every CAUSE there is an EFFECT, for every ACTION there is an equal and opposite REACTION. To put it in plain and simple language which we can all understand, it means that what we put out each and every day of our life, is what we must get back in return, or as we SOW so shall we REAP. So My Friend, how do you personally answer the vitally important question posed by the title of this article ?What seeds are you sowing?? remembering all the time, that the ?Seeds? which you are planting today are in fact the origin of the beginning of what your life will be i...
