The band, arisen from the ashes of the Red Skulls, has been providing Timesland with danceable riffs for nearly a year now. We invited them into the I/O studio to discuss Roanoke nightclubs, a forthcoming mid-Atlantic tour and why they released their new single on vinyl.

Named for a passage in a James Joyce book, The Wading Girl has been building its reputation as a strong live act with good original songs. The band joins us in the IO studio/hovel to talk about its music and tell us why practically everyone in the group is working or has worked at a Coffee Shop.

Stations has been churning out street punk in Roanoke for a decade, keeping a longstanding fan base while catching the ears of younger listeners, too. The band releases a new CD about once every two years, and its Farm Dysfunction show is an annual event. The next Farm Dysfunction, an all-night band-fest, is coming up on May 21.

True Sound. The Remnant. Downtown Music Lab. Solo work. There's not much that Genesis Osagboro isn't into. Osagboro is probably best-known locally for his rhyming with True Sound. On the podcast, he sits down to discuss his work, and his spot as a judge on the locally produced "Wannabe," which itself wants to be a sort of minor league "American Idol" for the valleys. InsideOut is The Roanoke Times/roanoke.com's entertainment magazine.

So, you're the type to say, "Prom is such a drag." Well, maybe you're right. But here comes the Punk Rock Prom, whose organizers promise a looser event on Saturday, neither chaperoned by the teachers you've grown to hate nor filled with the sounds of music you despise. The music part may be a matter of opinion. Some posters on starcitypunk.com's message boards are questioning the credentials of something called a Punk Rock Prom that has no punk bands. The emo-word is being tossed around.

David Huddleston, born in Vinton, raised in Villamont, is as recognizable a face as any in Hollywood. You may not know his name, but you've seen his work: "Blazing Saddles," "The Big Lebowski," "The Wonder Years," "The Rockford Files," "The West Wing." The list goes on. Huddleston came to Roanoke April 14 for the Blue Ridge Southwest Virginia Vision Film Festival, and he took some time out from his busy weekend schedule to join us for a podcast.

Singer/songwriter Tricia Carter and guitarist/producer Tommy Noland came to the lush Inside Out podcast alcove to talk about Carter's most recent release, "Here," and pick a couple songs for us. The Roanoke-based hip-hop collective began taking shape in 1997 when Byron Mack (Poseidon MC) - an aspiring lyricist, rapper and producer from a musical family in Salem - teamed with Case Jones, a DJ and MC who moved here from the Bronx in 1993. Growing up in hip-hop's ground zero and once living a few blocks from Africa Bambaataa gives Jones the group's trump card, and he laughs that he's "the only one with any real street-cred."

The audience is a participant at Big Lick shows, and once, two of their suggestions for skits divided the crowd, Anderson said. At one show, an audience member shouted out "a sharpshooter" as a suggestion. Another shouted out "The White House." Half the audience was shocked, and the other half was cracking up, Anderson said. But Ruelle, the host/moderator, pulled it together by saying, "Well, in the interest of national security, can I get another suggestion?"
