Episode 149 - Review: Titans @ 49ers
Take On The Titans news items:EmailsThanks for all the great Titans news & commentary. Living in North Carolina, Take on the Titans is my weekly fix for Titans coverage & commentary. Since local TV coverage has been lacking, I have a question I'm hoping you can help answer. How accurate are VY's throws to the receivers? His stats look great, but I don't get to see if the ball delivery requires "great feats of athleticism" to catch or if the throw is right on the receivers' numbers. What is your opinion?Keep up the great work. It's very much appreciated.Todd TrautmanApex, NC Ex-Titans newsBrandon Jones and Joe Nedney on 49ers Player NewsChris Davis is once again cut from the Titans (but is it forever?)Titans sign LB Eric Bakhtiari to the practice squad Jevon Kearse says that he may need offseason surgery to clean up an old ACL injury Non-Player NewsTNA event - several Titans involved Upcoming ScheduleSunday, November 15, 2009, noon CDT vs BillsMonday, November 23, 2009, 7:30 pm CDT at TexansSunday, November 29, 2009, noon CDT vs CardinalsSunday, December 6, 2009, noon CDT at Colts Titans @ 49ersDid CJ step out of bounds on that long run? What was up with that halfback pass?Gutsy call on 4th and goal in the 4th quarter.Unsung play of Leroy Harris who stepped in for David StewartQuality play out of Gerald McRath who stepped in for David ThorntonWhy are we just now seeing Rod Hood? Finally, a WR steps up and goes for the ball... thank you Justin GageCortland Finnegan is proving he is invaluable to the Titans secondaryVY is quietly doing the job he NEEDS to doStupid Questions of the Week:Can Chris Johnson turn enough heads to warrant a MVP award? What will Bud Adams do if there is an uncapped year; will he open his wallet? Episode 145 - Review: Titans @ Patriots
Take On The Titans news items:EmailsTony KingTravis Anderson Ex-Titans newsFormer Titans GM's wife says husband saved Coach Fisher's job -- twiceFormer Tennessee Titans General Manager Floyd Reese supposedly turned in his resignation to the Tennessee Titans after 21 years back in January of 2007 but his wife, Sally, is now saying that Reese never wanted to leave and that his actual resignation letter was written by team Senior Executive Vice President Steve Underwood, according to the Nashville City Paper. She claims that Reese, who is now a senior advisor for the New England Patriots, was given no notice of his firing and wasn't allowed to clean out his own office. Reese also supposedly saved head coach Jeff Fisher's job twice while he was with the team. Mrs. Reese's outburst came because she was visiting Nashville and heard what she thought were erroneous claims on a sports-radio station. Her husband was on a plane to London so he had no idea that it was all going on.Fisher has apparently claimed that Reese kept him out of the draft process as well, but Sally Reese said that wasn't true, either. She said that her husband had actually been planning to draft Devin Hester but Fisher wanted LenDale White. The Titans eventually drafted White and missed out on the very talented Hester. You can be sure the Reeses greatly enjoyed New England's 59-0 romp last Sunday, though. "Payback's a bitch," she said. "Sunday I was hoping they'd run it to 100."One thing Mrs. Reese was certain about: Her husband wasn't going to be happy that she had spilled the beans.Quinton Ganther signed by Redskins Player NewsChris Hope fined $10,000 for his hit on BradyTony Brown fined $5,000 for his hit on BradyControversy is building over who will start the next game; Bud Adams has let slip to the media that we should start learning what Vince Young can do; Fisher has yet to definitively say who will start Non-Player NewsFisher puts on a Peyton Manning jersey Upcoming ScheduleSunday, November 1, 2009, 3:05 pm CDT vs JaguarsSunday, November 8, 2009, 3:15 pm CDT at 49ersSunday, November 15, 2009, noon CDT vs BillsMonday, November 23, 2009, 7:30 pm CDT at Texans Titans vs PatriotsEmbarrassed to be a Titans fan (from team play alone)Chuck Cecil... time to goKerry Collins - -7 passing yards - I think that is the first time I have ever seen that from a QB that played most of the game5 turnovers... Episode 130 - Preseason Has Begun: Postgame - Titans vs. Bills
Take On The Titans show notes:1.  Ex-Titans news - Ex-Titan G Ryan Schmidt was picked up by Tampa Bay Bucs. He was released by the Titans on July 29. - Ex-Titans DL Derrick Jones was picked up by the Buffalo Bills - Ex-Titans WR Brandon Jones (currently playing for the 49ers) injured his right shoulder diving for a pass Thursday afternoon and Friday an X-ray revealed a fracture in the AC joint. The free agent from the Tennessee Titans, who had been having an excellent camp, will be out eight weeks. - The widow of former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been granted the right to act as guardian for her children's inheritance.2.  Player News - When it comes to his weight battle, Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White blames it on the alcohol.Advertisement "It wasn't a lot of major diet changes. (It was) watching what I drink. I was a big Patron consumer. ... That's what it was. I was drinking a lot, drank a lot of alcohol. I cut that out of my diet all the way. I don't drink at all. I cut the drinking, I stopped drinking for six months. It started falling off." He said he weighed as much as 265 pounds last season, but reported to camp at 228. "I'm telling y'all they woke me up, and I'm happy they did too," he said. He's awake, and apparently without the pounding headache. - Vince Young tells Esquire magazine that he thinks he'll be the next black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. And if that weren't enough, he says he'll be inducted into Pro Football's Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, once he's all finished - Alge Crumpler donated $75,000 to his former high school for renovations and upgrades to their dilapidated football facilities (New Hanover High School - Wilmington, NC) - Chris Hope and Michael Griffin are in control - Chris Hope has a ridiculously high work ethic and both him and Griff have the secondary in control - Nate Washington will help more than Chris Johnson - Washington's speed is really showing in practice. He will free up Gage in the receiving corp - One of the Titans scouts said he's been especially impressed with two rookies -- running back Javon Ringer and linebacker Gerald McRath.  - Vince Young has seemed more mature and generally been more accurate. Tuesday night he was in command of a nicely executed 2:00 drill. However, Patrick Ramsey has a chance.  - Kenny Britt will have a tough time matching Jared Cook for early impact: Britt's likely to come off PUP early next week - his hamstring is better, he's just trying to regain conditioning and leg strength. Missing over a week because of his contract and then his hamstring isn't the sort of thing that should have a giant bearing on his early fate. But I don't imagine him forcing his way onto the field early in the season if Gage, Washington and Chris Davis stay on their current courses. If third-rounder Jared Cook keeps doing what he's been doing, though, the Titans will have a hard time not using the tight end in Pittsburgh on opening night. Right now, if you list the team's three most dynamic weapons on offense, I am certain Johnson is No. 1, feel confident putting Washington second and don't feel like I am stretching to place Cook third. - Mitch King DT from Iowa is having a great camp, but might not make the team. He may end up being a victim of the numbers. - Cary Williams is making a move up the depth chart - Kenny Britt is now practicing with the team - INJURY REPORT: Fisher said Tulloch, Allred, Stamer and defensive end Jacob Ford all have a chance to play in Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at LP Field. Running back Javon Ringer was held out of practice, but should be back tomorrow, as was tight end Alge Crumpler. Defensive tackle Jason Jones has a sore foot and was wearing a protective boot, and wide receiver Chris Davis, fullback Casey Cramer, wide receiver Mark Jones and punter Craig Hentrich all sat out. - Recent injuries to Stephen Tulloch, Colin Allred and Josh Stamer have left the Titans thin at linebacker. The team responded today by signing linebackers Rocky Boiman and Tyson Smith. They released quarterback Alex Mortensen and cornerback Jeremy Haynes to make room. - If you follow Keith Bullock or Chris Johnson on Twitter, then enjoy it while you can...3.  Non-Player News - Tickets are on sale for Music City Star train service to Riverfront Station for Tennessee Titans home games. Cost is $15 for an advance single game ticket, $20 on game day and $110 for an advance season ticket for the train. - The Tennessee Titans organization will honor late quarterback Steve McNair as they will wear a No. 9 decal on the back of their helmets this season. - Several NFL teams have moved to place restrictions on when, how and if players can utilize Twitter, and Jeff Fisher confirmed last night that the Titans are in the process of drafting an official set of restrictions on the subject.  I'd expect them to mainly put the kibosh on any such activity inside the Titans' facilities and potential fines for inappropriate comments/complaints made over Twitter or Ustream. - Bud Adams funny story... Bud handed over his wife's Cadillac to star RB Billy Cannon so that he'd sign with the team rather than with the LA Rams. - Bud Adams is often overlooked for his contribution to starting the AFL. Should he be in the NFL Hall of Fame?4. Upcoming Schedule - Sat 8/15 Tampa Bay 8:00 pm (preseason) - Fri 8/21 at Dallas 8:00 pm (preseason) - Sat 8/29 at Cleveland 7:30 pm (preseason) - Thu 9/3 Green Bay 8:00 pm (preseason)5.  Titans vs. Bills - The fake punt was a work of art by Trapasso - Nate Washington looked good - Kevin Vickerson had a very good game, but it was against a very poor Bills line - Javon Ringer looked good, but I'd like to see him with the starting O-line - Jarod Cook made a few nice grabs - I'm hearing more and more about LB Gerald McGrath and how good he's is in camp. He had a nice fumble recovery - Sen'Derrick Marks (sack) and Ryan Mouton () also had good games - Paul Williams had a nice TD grab, but he seems to be better in camp and preseason than during the regular season - DB Cary Williams got tested pretty often, but held up nicely - VY started off rough... lacked confidence and his natural aggressive nature, but finished with a nice TD pass; BTW: his INT was the receivers fault - Patrick Ramsey was serviceable, but I doubt he overtakes VY - Ryan Fowler fowled up with his idiotic late hit - Chris Davis is not going to make this team... - QB Alex Mortensen (Chris Mortensen's son) is not even scratching the surface of making this team - too many penalties - Alge Crumpler looked like he found Len Dale's lost weight - Chris Johnson, LenDale White, and Kerry Collins picked up where they left off last season
