Tonight was cool because I basically was just picking records from the crates; The first tune I found was by Paradox, which started the night out on the intelligent drumfunk tip. Just to give you an idea of what goes on, I startup Winamp for streaming the live show to the bassdrive.com servers. Once connected, I usually allow about a minute of silence to make sure the live server's buffer is clear. At that point, I start the music, and tell the server to put my show live. Tonight's show for some reason didn't go live when I thought, so I rewound that first track and started it over. Just a little look behind the scenes. Was just for fun, hope it tripped you out a bit. There are some issues with the mixer tonight, at points during the show the left went out some. Old gear ya know... Tonight had a ton of different flavors of jungle, drum and bass, old techstep (seriously, it doesn't get more techstep than some old Saigon), dub styles, even some liquid funk. Marc died tragically in a car accident last year at the age of 21 (I believe). Spammy was a great friend, a wicked DJ, and a talented producer. Sonic Evolution is a LIVE BROADCAST on the internationally-renown site Bassdrive.com. I BROADCAST Sunday nights 9-11PM CST (that's Monday 3AM-5AM for you international types). Tonight's show got started an hour late, due to my own forgetfulness. I played a gig Saturday night, and left my headphones in someone's car. Luckily she was able to make it by and drop those off, and the show went for the scheduled two hours, just shifted back an hour. A listener in the chatroom claimed that the show was being broadcast to 2000 people somewhere in The Netherlands; I'm not sure I believe that. If you are that person, please email me. And seriously if there were 2000 people listening, get each one to contribue a euro and get me a gig over there! I've been before, and I have my passport at the ready! If you know Britt or Sonya Trouble in The Dam, tell them I said hello! Also, last week the show was reviewed by the guys at the Idiot Vox (http://www.voxmonitor.com/?cat=1) reviewed my show. They review internet shows that are called 'podcasts,' which is nothing more than MP3 files distributed using the Blog XML file format called 'RSS.' I appreciate the comments these guys had (check their mp3 comments here http://www.idiotvox.com/media/IdiotVox_podcast_review_podcast_042305.mp3 ). It's obvious they misunderstand a couple of things. 1. My show is not a 'podcast,' I only use RSS to redistribute my archives. It's all about the LIVE BROADCAST BABY! 2. They don't grok DJ mixing, or the level to which it occurs on my show. 'Podcast' people are all about this 'new' thing called mashups, where you take the acapella from one track, mix it with the music of another. Well, if you like mashups that much, you should check this show, because it's basically a 2 hour mashup of Drum & Bass. However, their comments have made me consider the possibility of doing a behind-the-scenes feature with all my shows to include commentary, descriptions of studio setup and procedures, and other things that aren't appropriate for the broadcast, so respects to them for making me consider ways to improve my show.
