September 4th: Labour Day in Grand Falls-Windsor, The Bugaloo Chainsaw Massacre and Pedestrian Summer on St. Catherine Street
1. At this year's Labour Day parade in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, there was talk about impending job cuts at the town's paper mill. 2. Whitehorse's mountain biking community built their own skill rides on the Bugaloo Trails, but recently, all of the structures have been hacked up to pieces with a chainsaw. 3. A stretch of St. Catherine Street in Montreal was closed all summer. CBC spoke to residents, customers and businesses for their take on whether the experiment was a success.

August 28th: Trekking North of the Arctic Circle and Dragon Boating with The Breast Friends
The head of conservation outreach at the Calgary Zoo, Brian Keating, left a voicemail this week for CBC Calgary's Homestretch. He?s been traveling north of the Arctic Circle for the last few weeks. Then, we meet The Breast Friends. The team is made up entirely of breast cancer survivors, and Edmonton?s annual Dragon Boat festival went pink this past weekend in their honour. Sound Like Canada host Steve Burgess spoke with team member Gillian Rutherford.

August 27th: "Voice of the Community" and the Opening of The Haida Heritage Centre on Haida Gwaii
A new book called "Voice of the Community" is the result of a three year research project in rural Prince Edward Island. A team from the University of PEI worked with people in six rural communities to explore the issues around their children's lives. Also, It?s been decades in the making, but the doors to a heritage centre in the North were officially opened. It was a day of celebration on Haida Gwaii - the Queen Charlotte Islands - over this past weekend.

August 26th: Fighting for a Sign and Drug Addiction in the Oil Industry
For three years, Kelly Symmonds fought to get a sign on her street alerting traffic to her hearing impaired son. But at every request, she was denied. This week, Kelly Symmonds' hard work paid off. Also, recovering drug addict Rick Anthony has some pretty sobering things to say about what can happen to workers in the oil industry. Anthony used to work in Alberta in the oil patch.

August 25th: Facing Your Phobias...Virtually
The future is now at a cyber-psychology lab in Gatineau. Patients are exposed to their darkest phobias and anxieties. But their exposure is in the virtual world. Therapists help them confront their fears using 3-D goggles and computer programs. The CBC?s Hallie Cotnam went to investigate and returned with this story for Ottawa Morning.

August 21st: Sandbar Erosion at Sandy Beach in Quebec, the Upcoming Canada-Russia Challenge in New Brunswick, and Getting the Coronation Cup Back
1. The long thin point of Sandy Beach juts out hundreds of metres into the Bay of Gaspe. But now, too much human interference has caused the shoreline to erode, putting the habitats of birds and fish at risk. 2. The Coronation Cup is back in New Brunswick after a one-hundred-and-six year absence. 3. Saint John, New Brunswick is one of six chosen for this year's Canada-Russia Challenge. Organizers say it promises to be an exciting game and it could lead to bigger things for Saint John.

August 20th: The Weekend to End Breast Cancer, The Documents of William Pearce and The Independent Soldiers
1. Hundreds of walkers pounded the pavement in Halifax, Nova Scotia for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer. 2. William Pearce was Sir John A. Macdonald's right hand man in settling the west. Now his documents and journals can be viewed on the University of Alberta's website. 3. Police say a feud between the Independent Soldiers and a splinter group is behind an increase of violence in Prince George, British Columbia, but who are the Independent Soldiers, and what are they doing in Prince George?

August 19th: Funding Cuts to Touring Artists and Radio Free Banff
The Polaris-Prize nominated band Holy F*** is feeling the sting of cuts to federal funding for touring artists. Here?s Q guest host Amanda Putz with Holy F?s Bassist, Matt McQuaid. And, the Banff Centre in Alberta is celebrating Canada's radio art history with a project called "Radio Free Banff." It's a series of shows, hands-on workshops, and public events. One of those radio art workshops was called "Build and Perform Your Own Micro-Transmitter."

August 18th: National Peacekeepers Day
Just over a week ago, Canada's peacekeepers were recognized across the country as part of National Peacekeepers Day. In Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, a ceremony was held at veterans square in front of city hall. The current and former soldiers have seen and experienced levels of suffering most of us will never know. But they're also proud of what they accomplished on their overseas missions. After the ceremony, the CBC?s Dave Croft talked to some of the former peacekeepers.

August 15th: Working Underground, SPIN Farming and 4-H
Find out about the unpleasant working conditions in the Canadian Pacific Rail train tunnel under the Detroit River from a representative with Teamsters Canada. August 14th: Fiddlers Gather in St. John's
A fiddler?s convention in St. John?s, Newfoundland last week brought in fiddlers from all over the world. August 13th: The Okanagan Mountain Park Fire and Korean Families in Moncton
Five years ago this month one of the most devastating fires ever burned through the southern interior of British Columbia. Former Kelowna Fire Chief Gerry Zimmermann stood out as an emblem for all the firefighters. Also, meet Cheon Ae Park. She's the president of the local Korean Association in Moncton, New Brunswick, a city that?s seeing more and more Korean families move in, though many don't stay for long.

August 12th: Ghost Hunting and Taking On the Tely 10
Halifax one of Canada's oldest cities and one of its attractions is ghost tours. A group of young people is taking that idea a step further. Recently they took their hunt to Devil's Island at the mouth of Halifax harbour. Then we hear the story of Jennifer Mullet. Eight years ago Jennifer was diagnosed with cancer in the calf of her leg. This summer, Jennifer crossed the finish line of the Tely 10 marathon in St. John's. Josh Pennell went to Lewisporte to hear Jennifer's story.
